Job Description
Joliet Metallurgical Laboratories, Inc. (JML) is the largest facility of its kind in the United States, providing critical Creep and Stress Rupture Testing services for demanding industries like aerospace, power generation, and automotive. We are dedicated to the highest standards of quality, certified by national governing bodies like NADCAP and ISO.
We are seeking a Quality Specialist to be a driving force in upholding our commitment to excellence, continuous improvement, and rigorous compliance in our Joliet, IL laboratory.
This position exists at the intersection of our quality, process, and technology departments. You will assist laboratory management in the daily operations to ensure all machining, testing, and reporting of customer specimens are consistent with company, industry, and national standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Quality Assurance & Compliance Oversight:
- Maintain Compliance: Work closely with the Quality Manager to ensure adherence to established Quality Management Systems (e.g., ISO17025, ISO9001, NADCAP).
- Audit Readiness: Support management in preparation for and execution of successful laboratory audits and certifications.
- Continuous Improvement: Identify and implement enhancements to machining and testing procedures to ensure optimal standards and product consistency.
Testing and Data Integrity:
- Testing Procedures: Perform daily technical duties, including metal sample preparation, operating and maintaining laboratory machinery, and conducting various metallurgical analyses and experimental procedures.
- Data Validation: Monitor and analyze testing data to ensure the reliability and validity of testing specimen results and final reporting.
- Specifications: Assist management in verifying production material specifications and testing meet required company, national, and industry standards.
Technical Support & Training:
- Assist in the design, creation, calibration, testing, and maintenance of machinery and testing equipment to ensure laboratory accuracy.
- Assist in the education and training of company employees on new testing processes, policies, and procedures.
Required Technical Skills:
- Precision Measurement: Proficiently use and interpret measurement tools, including calipers, micrometers, and dial indicators.
- Technical Interpretation: Skilled in reading and interpreting complex technical drawings, specifications, and customer requirements.
- Quality Systems: Familiarity with Quality Management Systems (e.g., ISO17025, ISO9001).
- Statistical Analysis: Experience with statistical quality control (SQC) and various sampling and inspection techniques.
- Calibration: Competent in equipment calibration methods and maintenance procedures.
- Software: Proficiency in the Microsoft 365 suite (Outlook, Excel, Word).
Qualifications:
- Experience: 1–2 years of job experience in a Quality Assurance or Quality Control role, preferably within a manufacturing, machining, or materials testing environment.
- Education: Associate's degree in a related technical field (or equivalent professional experience).
