Position Specifics
Vigor Marine CM San Diego is currently searching for a Rigger 3. The Rigger 3 is responsible for rigging material to lift, move, and position onto ships or to move around the shipyard; conveys instructions to crane operators and forklift drivers using hand signals, loud speaker, or radios; locates and loads materials and equipment on and off the ship and in and out of the shipyard; tests and installs rigging equipment (e.g. cargo booms, elevators, boat davits, booms, portable davits, anchors, anchor chains, mobile cranes, sliding pad-eyes, and winches); controls movement of heavy equipment through narrow openings and/or confined spaces; selects cables, wire, ropes, nylon lines, pulleys, winches, blocks, braces, shackles according to weight, distribution, and size of load to be moved.
Minimum Requirements
- Familiarity with OSHA safety standards
- In-depth knowledge of rigging equipment and heavy machinery
- Ability to handle winches, grip hoists, pulleys, cables, ropes, mooring lines, and other equipment
- Ability to test shipboard and yard equipment
- Ability to give proper hand signals to crane operators and other workers
- Must have 3 years of rigging experience
- The ability to obtain a DBIDS credential is required
Physical Requirements
- Most work is performed aboard ships or in industrial conditions. Shop, shipboard, warehouse, industrial environment
- May be exposed to fumes and irritants including welding/burning fumes, paints, oils, greases and various cleaning solutions and solvents, noise, high heat and humidity hazards while wearing the required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
- Frequently moves throughout the shipyard
- Frequently communicates with others to convey instructions to crane operators and forklift drivers about where to move, lower, or lift equipment. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
- Must be able to maintain and operate rigging equipment which includes the ability to prepare, inspect, maneuver, and breakdown heavy equipment machinery
- Work at heights and in confined spaces
- Must be able to ascend/descend stairs/ladders/ramps, aboard ships in shipyards under industrial conditions and in confined spaces
- Must be able to move heavy equipment and boxes, weighing up to 50 pounds
- May be exposed to rapid changes in microclimates, industrial processes, and other environmental factors while collecting data, providing direction, and observing performance of task teams
