About the Role:

The Toddler/Two's Lead Teacher plays a pivotal role in creating a safe, nurturing, and stimulating environment for toddlers aged 1 to 2 years. This position is responsible for implementing an age-appropriate curriculum that supports the developmental milestones of young children, including social, emotional, cognitive, and physical growth. The Lead Teacher will collaborate closely with families to ensure individualized care and learning plans that respect each child's unique needs and background. Additionally, this role involves supervising assistant teachers and maintaining compliance with all regulatory and safety standards within the classroom. Ultimately, the Lead Teacher will establish a positive foundation for lifelong learning by fostering curiosity, exploration, and early social skills in a warm and engaging environment.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • CDA in infant/toddler care or an associate’s degree or higher in Early Childhood Education or a related field.
  • Experience working with toddlers in a licensed childcare setting as a lead teacher.
  • Knowledge of child development principles and age-appropriate teaching strategies.
  • Strong communication skills for effective family engagement and team collaboration.
  • Current certification in pediatric CPR and First Aid.
  • Ability to pass background checks and meet state licensing requirements.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide attentive, nurturing care to children ages 15–24 months
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and organized classroom environment
  • Create age-appropriate lesson plans that support social, emotional, physical, and cognitive development
  • Help children build independence through daily routines (toileting, handwashing, self-help skills)
  • Support positive behavior using redirection, modeling, and encouragement
  • Communicate professionally with parents and team members
  • Follow all center policies and DCFS licensing regulations
  • Work collaboratively with co-teachers and leadership to ensure a consistent, quality classroom experience

The required and preferred skills are essential for creating a supportive and enriching learning environment for toddlers. Strong knowledge of child development allows the teacher to tailor activities that promote growth across multiple domains. Effective communication skills are used daily to build trusting relationships with families and collaborate with staff. Leadership and organizational skills help in managing classroom dynamics and ensuring the smooth operation of daily routines. Additionally, the ability to observe and assess children’s progress enables the teacher to adapt instruction and provide individualized support, fostering each child's unique potential.
