Job Description

About the Role

Under the supervision of the Gender Based Violence (GBV) Director, the GBV Therapist provides trauma-informed, survivor-centered, and culturally responsive therapeutic services to survivors of gender-based violence, sexual assault, and commercial sexual exploitation. This role primarily supports African American survivors and other survivors of color, delivering compassionate care rooted in safety, empowerment, and cultural awareness.

What You’ll Do

  • Provide trauma-informed, survivor-centered therapy to individuals impacted by domestic violence, sexual assault, and other forms of gender-based violence.
  • Conduct intake assessments to determine client needs, risk factors, and appropriate therapeutic approaches.
  • Develop and implement Individualized Treatment Plans (ITPs) aligned with clinical assessments, client goals, and safety considerations.
  • Deliver evidence-based interventions (e.g., EMDR, CBT, or other modalities) tailored to each survivor’s cultural background and lived experience.
  • Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation in accordance with agency, legal, and ethical requirements.
  • Participate in staff meetings, case consultations, and clinical supervision.
  • Collaborate with internal teams (advocates, case managers, housing specialists) and external partners (schools, legal services, law enforcement) to ensure wraparound support.
  • Provide crisis intervention and stabilization during emergency or high-risk situations.
  • Facilitate referrals to medical services, legal aid, housing programs, and crisis response resources.
  • Uphold confidentiality, informed consent, mandatory reporting, and ethical care standards.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development and maintain required licensure/certifications.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in psychology, social work, education, public administration, or related field (Master’s preferred).
  • Bilingual in Spanish or another high-need language strongly preferred.
  • Current Washington State licensure or associate-level credential (e.g., LICSW, LMHC, LMFT, or associate license).
  • Minimum 2 years of experience providing trauma-informed therapy, ideally working with survivors of gender-based violence.
  • Completion of 20–30 hours of GBV and sexual assault training required prior to first day of employment.
  • EMDR certification or formal EMDR training strongly preferred (candidates actively pursuing certification also considered).
  • Minimum 3 years of experience working with African American communities and other communities of color.
  • Strong communication, documentation, and networking skills.

Working Conditions

  • Ability to lift up to 30 lbs.
  • Regular driving required to meet program needs — valid Washington State driver’s license and proof of insurance required.
