The Radiologic Technologist/Sonographer must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients service on his or her assigned unit. The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patients status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patients needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the units/area/departments policies and procedures.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSMust provide radiographic/Sonographic examination of all body parts for diagnostic interpretation. Must exercise professional judgement in performance of procedures applying principles of radiation protection.Perform diagnostic medical radiography/sonography within department and other areas.Maintain patient records and files.Assume responsibility for departmental quality assurance program.Pursue continuing education.Transfer patient to and from radiology.In absence of supervisor, assume responsibility of department.Rotate shifts as required.Perform ancillary duties as requested by supervisor.Follow policies and procedures as set up by SEARHC Administration.Assist in general hygiene of department and self.Should be able to work well in situations of stress.Must be willing to able to take call and report to work within 20 minutes.Must be willing to learn other imaging modalities as Manager sees fit.Must be able to perform duties in two fields of imaging and willing to work outside of modality, i.e., Ultrasound, MRI, CT, Mammography.Must maintain competency in ancillary modality.Able and willing to perform other duties as assigned.
MAMMOGRAPHYPerform the following:Breast needle localizationSpecimen radiographyQuality controlScreeningDiagnosticStereotactic breast biopsyActively pursues five CEUs Mammography credits per year documented per ACR/FDA requirements and kept in RadiologyPerforms 100 mammograms per year documented per ACR/FDA requirements and kept in Radiology
ULTRASOUNDPerform all requested exams for diagnostic interpretation by a radiologist.Continue to seek a higher level of education with RDMS certification (Abd, OB/GYN, RVT, RDCS).Pursue continuing education to fulfill radiology and/or RDMS requirements.Responsible for care of transducers.Responsible for neatness of work area.Responsible for paperwork that accompanies procedureAssistance with ultrasound invasive procedures.Participate in the preparation of policy and procedure in this area.Consult with referring physicians.Care of Trophon station.Assists with all efforts to obtain accreditations.Actively pursues education in a changing field.
MRITechnically able to perform all requested procedures or to improvise with new studies.Responsible for care of coils.Responsible for paperwork that accompanies proceduresActive part of policy and procedure preparation in this area.Converse with referring physicians regarding imaging procedures.Able to perform venipuncture.Magnet safety/ patient and staff.Able to perform quench procedure.Cleaning area.Processor care.Daily/Weekly QC
CT/ INTERVENTIONALResponsible for care of equipment in this area.Responsible for record maintenance.Assist with invasive procedures and knowledge of these procedures.Active part in the preparation of procedure in this area.Consult with referring physicians.Strive towards the goal of venipuncture.Follow standard precautions procedure.Alter routine protocols to provide quality care to pediatric, adolescent, and geriatric patients.Change contrast levels per age group.Set up and run automatic injector.Familiar with contraindications of contract.Competent in tele-radiology transmission.Competent in sterile technique.Actively assist in supply inventory and ordering.Daily/Weekly QC
LEAD TECHNOLOGISTWork in conjunction with Imaging Manager and Director; support development and achievement of organizational goals and objectives.Review, edit, correct, and validate PACS to ensure accurate patient procedure image labeling.Ensure flow of work is organized and efficient.Assign daily staffing schedule.Respond to staff concerns promptly.Works to identify and solve operational problems.Assist in hiring staff.Coordinate new staff orientation.Serve as an expert resource for staff. Staff need to feel comfortable going to the lead as a resource for clinical or technical questions, patient or customer concerns, and process questions.SECONDARY FUNCTIONSAttends department/organizational meetings, in-services, and disaster drills.
