Job Summary

The University of California, Davis Fire Department (UCDFD) is seeking a Contract EMT Skills Instructor to support its Emergency Medical Services (EMS) EMT Program and other Basic Life Support classes including, but not limited to, CPR and Stop the Bleed.

The Contract EMT Skills Instructor plays a vital role in delivering high-quality EMS education as part of the UCDFD's EMS Education programs. Primary responsibilities include providing hands-on skills instruction for Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) courses, CPR classes, and Stop the Bleed training. The EMT Skills Instructor collaborates with the Program Director, Lead Instructors, and other Trainers to deliver effective instruction, evaluate student performance, and ensure alignment with program objectives.

Additional responsibilities include managing logistics and completing tasks as assigned by the EMS Division.
This is a variable-hour, hourly contract position requiring flexibility, as weekly hours will vary based on program needs. The position is limited to 0.43 FTE or a maximum of 894 hours annually.

Schedule:
- Summer Quarter: EMT Skills Labs are held Fridays and Saturdays, 0730-1730.
- Fall 2025 and Beyond: EMT Skills Labs transition to Saturdays and Sundays, 0730-1630, for the Fall, Winter, and Spring Quarters.
- Flexibility is required for additional days throughout the week to support CPR and Stop the Bleed classes as needed.

The EMT Skills Instructor must be available for assigned days and times, including nights and weekends, to accommodate program demands.

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position

  • Current California certification or licensure as an EMT-Paramedic, Registered Nurse (RN), Nurse Practitioner (NP), Physician Assistant (PA), or Medical Doctor (MD) is required.
  • Required to hold a valid California driver's license, have a driving record that is in accordance with local policies/procedures, and/or enroll in the California Employer Pull Notice Program
  • Successful completion of an EMS course for the disciplines in which the instructor is assisting.
  • Successful completion of an EMS course for the disciplines in which the instructor is assisting.
  • Ability to deliver hands-on skills instruction effectively in classroom environments, assess student learning and performance, and facilitate successful student outcomes aligned with program objectives.
  • Knowledge of the delivery of emergency medical services in the state of California.

Preferred Qualifications

  • National Association of EMS Educators (NAEMSE) Instructor I certification or completion of forty (40) hours of documented teaching methodology instruction, including methods, materials, and evaluation of instruction. Demonstrated knowledge of adult learning theories, competency-based education principles, and effective facilitation techniques.
  • Ability to adapt to changing program needs in a positive, professional, and productive manner. Demonstrated commitment to fostering an inclusive educational environment that meets the needs of diverse student populations and healthcare settings.
  • Skill to perform logistical needs such as inventory, clean, and restock EMS equipment and gear bags needed for EMS classes.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, flexibility, and customer service orientation.
