Role Summary:
Det-Tronics is seeking an experienced and capable Commodity Manager for metal castings, machined parts, and other metal components. This person will report to our Strategic Sourcing Manager and help support oversight of Det-Tronics’ supplier base to ensure quality, service, pricing, and capabilities meet our standards. This person will also support Sustaining and NPI development initiatives and ensure Det-Tronics stays ahead of global market trends.
Essential Functions:
- Support development and implementation of sourcing strategies through analysis of company requirements
- Evaluate global commodity markets and their impacts to company performance
- Regularly perform detailed market analysis with respect to global commodities, specific industries, exchange rates, international trade compliance, and labor rates
- Provide forecasts to management of trends, opportunities and potential risk areas
- Act independently to identify and develop supply chain improvement opportunities
- Develop and maintain robust project pipeline to deliver year-over-year cost savings
- Lead cross-functional sourcing projects including new vendor identification, initial assessment, qualification, setup, and production ramp up
- Stay informed of technological trends to help identify alternative materials or processes, which may bring advantages or advancement to company's product designs
- Collaborate with design engineering on new product introduction projects
- Partner with supplier quality to evaluate supplier performance and drive improvements
- Regularly negotiate with suppliers to address quality, price, or service discrepancies
- Evaluate supplier capability and make recommendations to improve productivity, quality, and efficiency of vendor operations
- Hold suppliers accountable to Det-Tronics’ Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) standards to support new product development and product changes
- Assist in developing internal process that improve business continuity
- Justify and execute capital expenditures requests as necessary to support sourcing projects
- Other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Management, Operations, or other related technical degree and a minimum of 5 years of experience in a sourcing role in an electromechanical manufacturing environment OR; 10 years of relevant experience and education combined.
- Excellent interpersonal, oral presentation and written communication skills; professional presence and behavior
- Sourcing or engineering experience in metal casting and machining industries, commodity markets, tooling, processes and finishes
- Understanding of general manufacturing finance, make/buy analysis, total cost of ownership (TCO), MRP/ERP, inventory control techniques, and forecasting
- The ability to read and interpret mechanical part blueprints and/or drawings
- Strong analytical and PC skills including excellent working knowledge of MS Office Suite of products
- Ability to effectively negotiate on behalf of Det-Tronics’ interests
- Experience with ISO:9001 requirements and supplier audits
- Knowledge of Six Sigma, Lean, TQM and continuous improvement methodologies
- Project management skills
- Understand workplace hazards and take steps to proactively prevent and report hazards or injuries in the workplace.
Special Requirements:
- Up to 30% travel
- Ability to work in a standard office environment
Preferred Qualifications:
- Familiarity with JD Edwards ERP and ARAS PLM software
- Formal negotiation training
- APICS certification a plus
