About the Role
We are seeking a Senior Engineer / HVAC Technician with significant commercial plumbing experience to support a federal facility in Memphis, TN.
While the contract requires an HVAC Technician, the day-to-day work will involve heavy plumbing responsibilities—making this an ideal role for a seasoned plumber with HVAC credentials.
The ideal candidate is a hands-on, highly skilled technician who can independently troubleshoot, repair, and maintain complex mechanical systems in a mission-critical environment.
Key Responsibilities
HVAC Duties
- Install, maintain, and repair commercial HVAC systems including RTUs, AHUs, chillers, boilers, heat pumps, and cooling towers.
- Perform system diagnostics, refrigerant management, airflow testing, and optimization.
- Inspect and repair ductwork, dampers, motors, and controls.
- Conduct preventive maintenance on all HVAC equipment and maintain EPA-compliant records.
- Support building automation and energy management systems.
Plumbing Duties (Primary Need)
- Install, repair, and maintain plumbing systems including potable water, sewer, hydronic, and steam systems.
- Perform advanced pipefitting, brazing, soldering, and mechanical joint work.
- Diagnose leaks, pressure failures, drain issues, and equipment malfunctions.
- Install/maintain pumps, water heaters, valves, regulators, and fixtures.
- Work with large-diameter piping, backflow devices, and commercial-grade plumbing equipment.
- Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal plumbing codes.
General Facility Engineering
- Respond to service requests, emergencies, and system outages.
- Maintain accurate documentation and work orders via CMMS.
- Collaborate with engineering and operations teams on upgrades and projects.
- Follow all safety procedures including LOTO, confined space, and hazard reporting.
Qualifications
Required
- 7+ years of combined HVAC and plumbing experience in commercial/industrial environments.
- EPA 608 Universal Certification.
- Ability to read blueprints, technical schematics, and engineering documents.
- Strong troubleshooting skills across HVAC, plumbing, pumps, and mechanical systems.
- Valid driver’s license and eligibility to work in a federal facility.
Preferred
- Journeyman or Master Plumber license (highly preferred).
- HVAC Journeyman/Master License or equivalent technical training.
- Backflow Prevention Certification (ASSE 5110 or equivalent).
- Experience in federal, industrial, or secure-site operations.
- Welding, pipefitting, or mechanical certification(s).
