Occupational Therapist Position Summary:
The Occupational Therapist provides full-time, quality care in both outpatient and inpatient settings. Duties may include work at a local Long Term Care facility. This role encompasses treating patients of all ages and various diagnoses, aligning with the occupational therapy scope of practice in Alaska. Responsibilities include home visits, village travel, and frequent collaboration with medical providers, necessitating strong didactic skills due to Alaska’s Direct Access privilege for occupational therapy. The therapist will incorporate evidence-based practices into patient care plans and demonstrate professional conduct, patient care ethics, and respect for cultural diversity. Modification of care plans will be required, using considerations that are age-specific and patient-specific. The therapist supports the mission of achieving excellent health through teamwork.
Position Qualifications:- Minimum Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited program in Occupational Therapy.
- Minimum Experience: Preferred experience in the clinical setting (no minimum required).
- Licensing/Certification: Must be licensed in good standing in Alaska as an OT or hold a good-standing license from another state while awaiting Alaska licensure. Current certification by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT) and current BLS certification are required.
The Office equipment includes computers, telephones, fax machines, and copy machines. The hospital-based environment features standard Occupational Therapy Department equipment, including hi-lo tables, therapeutic exercise equipment, ultrasound, and electric stimulation modalities, as well as an ADL training room equipped with a bathroom and kitchen. In village settings, a treatment table is usually provided, with therapists bringing necessary materials for patient care, such as theraband and exercise programs.
Specialized Knowledge and Skills:- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret occupational therapy periodicals and medical literature.
- Proficiency in composing patient care documentation and medical correspondence.
- Effective communication skills with medical staff, peers, and administrative personnel.
- Able to communicate effectively with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds and varying English proficiency.
Day shifts are required.
Holiday Coverage:No holiday coverage is required.
Minimum Years of Experience:A minimum of 2 years of experience is preferred.
Important Recruitment Information:Private housing is not provided, and all housing will be in shared units with no pets allowed. Airfare will initially be the responsibility of the candidate and will be reimbursed upon arrival. It is essential to provide flight itinerary information at least one week prior to ensure scheduling for New Employee Orientation and housing arrangements. New Employee Orientation occurs every Tuesday and Wednesday. Candidates are not permitted to travel until all credentials have been verified and cleared.

- Measles
- Mumps
- Rubella
- T-Dap
- Polio
Alternatively, titers and historical shot records may be accepted. Additionally, candidates must submit a copy of their Photo ID, Social Security card, professional license/certification, educational transcripts, background check results, a 10-panel drug screen conducted within the last 90 days, and several other verification documents.
