Controls Engineer | Montague, MI

Salary Range: $84,000 - $129,000 depending on experience

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, program, and implement PLC, HMI, and SCADA systems for manufacturing processes.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex automation, electrical, and control system failures to minimize production downtime.
  • Develop and maintain electrical schematics, control system documentation, and standard operating procedures.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify, develop, and implement process improvements and optimization projects.
  • Select, specify, and procure control components, sensors, and instrumentation.
  • Ensure all control systems comply with safety standards, regulatory requirements, and company policies.
  • Provide technical support and training to maintenance technicians and operators on automation equipment.

Recommended Qualifications

  • Proficiency in PLC programming (e.g., Rockwell/Allen-Bradley, Siemens) and HMI/SCADA development.
  • Strong understanding of industrial control systems, including motor control, drives, and safety circuits.
  • Experience with industrial communication protocols (e.g., Ethernet/IP, Profinet) and network configuration.
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot, diagnose, and resolve complex automation and electrical issues.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, P&IDs, and instrumentation diagrams.
  • Experience with robotic programming, integration, or machine vision systems.

Bonus Qualifications

  • Experience with industrial robotics programming and integration (e.g., FANUC, KUKA, ABB).
  • Proficiency in vision systems setup and deployment (e.g., Cognex, Keyence).
  • Familiarity with industrial data historians (e.g., OSI PI, FactoryTalk Historian) and SQL databases.
  • Knowledge of industrial network design and cybersecurity best practices for OT environments.
