About the Role

The Food Service Worker plays an essential role in supporting the health and recovery of individuals receiving inpatient psychiatric and crisis stabilization services. This position is responsible for preparing, assembling, and delivering meals in accordance with dietary guidelines, food safety standards, and the therapeutic needs of clients in a behavioral health setting.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare and serve meals following established menus and dietary restrictions.

  • Safely operate kitchen equipment and maintain cleanliness in all food preparation areas.

  • Package and deliver meals to designated units (inpatient psychiatry and crisis stabilization).

  • Ensure tray line standards are met, including accurate labeling with patient name, diet, and delivery to the correct unit.

  • Follow all infection control and food safety protocols, maintaining high standards of sanitation and hygiene.

  • Collaborate with clinical staff to accommodate special dietary needs and meal timing.

  • Assist with inventory management, reporting shortages or equipment issues as needed.

  • Receive and inspect food deliveries for safety, freshness, and packaging integrity; record receipt and storage conditions.

  • Ensure proper food storage, including date labeling and allergen separation.

  • Maintain accurate records (temperature logs, sanitation checklists, meal production and delivery reports, and incident documentation).

  • Support a trauma-informed and culturally sensitive environment for clients and staff.

  • Maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries at all times.

  • Flexibility to work weekends and holidays as assigned.

What You Bring
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.

  • Prior experience in food service, preferably in healthcare, behavioral health, or institutional settings.

  • Knowledge of food safety and sanitation standards (ServSafe certification preferred).

  • Ability to work collaboratively in a trauma-informed, fast-paced, team-oriented environment.

  • Strong communication, organization, and time management skills.

  • Food Handlers permit required.

  • Current First Aid & CPR certification, or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire.

  • Valid Washington State Driver’s License, vehicle, and appropriate insurance if applicable.

  • Must pass all required background checks and health screenings.

Physical Demands / Work Environment

The employee will work in a kitchen environment within an inpatient and crisis stabilization facility. While performing the duties of this position, the employee must:

  • Stand for extended periods.

  • Lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

  • Perform frequent bending, reaching, and repetitive motions.

  • Work in a warm kitchen environment.
