SUMMARY STATEMENT

The Massage Therapy Program Coordinator and Lead Instructor is responsible for the overall administration, coordination, and instructional leadership of the Massage Therapy Program within Workforce Solutions and Continuing Education. This position ensures compliance with the Commission on Massage Therapy Accreditation (COMTA) and the Maryland Board of Massage Therapy Examiners, oversees adjunct faculty, manages program operations, and provides direct instruction to students. The coordinator plays a key role in maintaining program quality, supporting student success, and preparing graduates for state licensure.


ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS

Reports directly to WSCE Allied Health Program Manager. Works closely with the lab coordinator, adjunct faculty, clinical contract coordinator, workforce coordinator, and other staff. Serves as the primary liaison with COMTA and the Maryland Board of Massage Therapy Examiners.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

1. Provide classroom, lab, and clinical instruction as assigned.


2. Coordinate program operations, including adjunct faculty teaching schedules and course assignments.


3. Ensure compliance with COMTA and Maryland Board of Massage Therapy Examiners standards.


4. Collaborate with adjunct faculty to develop, review, and update curriculum to meet industry and accreditation requirements.


5. Oversee program documentation, including course syllabi, clinical records, and student progress reports.


6. Support students in preparing for state licensure examinations and provide academic advising as needed.


7. Monitor and maintain program facilities, labs, equipment, and supplies in collaboration with the lab coordinator.


8. Develop and implement assessment tools to evaluate student learning and program effectiveness.


9. Maintain current licensure, BLS, and specialty certifications; participate in continuing education to ensure teaching and clinical expertise.


10. Attend regular meetings with the WSCE Allied Health Program Manager and contribute to program planning and evaluation.


11. Perform administrative duties as assigned by the College.


12. Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Currently licensed or registered to practice massage therapy in Maryland, academically and professionally qualified, maintain expertise appropriate to teaching responsibilities, have an unencumbered license or registration for the past 5 years, and have a minimum of 5 years of clinical experience as a licensed massage therapist or registered massage practitioner. Associate degree required; bachelor’s degree preferred. Teaching or educational work experience preferred.


SKILLS AND ABILITIES

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and instructional technology.
• Ability to plan, facilitate, and assess instruction in classroom, lab, and clinical settings.
• Strong written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Demonstrated ability to lead faculty teams and coordinate program operations.
• Skilled in curriculum development and student-centered teaching strategies.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective professional relationships with students, faculty, staff, and external partners.
• Commitment to confidentiality, compliance, and professional standards.
• Must have a valid driver’s license, with a good driving record.


WORKING ENVIRONMENT

This position will work to oversee the Massage Therapy program on the Hagerstown Community College campus and will also include classroom, lab, and clinical instruction. This position will also require the applicant to hold office hours to meet with students, staff, and administration. This individual will be required to participate in HCC events and training. Working hours will vary depending on course offerings.
