Coastal Carolina University invites applications for a full-time Lecturer position in Media Effects/Social Media, beginning August 2026. Candidates must hold a graduate or terminal degree in Communication, Journalism, Mass Communication, Media Arts, Film Studies, or a closely related field by the time of appointment. This position will be shared between the Department of Communication, Media, & Culture (COMM) and Interdisciplinary Studies (IDS), with the faculty member officially housed in the Department of Communication, Media, & Culture. The successful candidate will support both units by teaching foundational courses in each program. The standard teaching load is five courses per semester, with instruction delivered in face-to-face, hybrid, or online formats. Occasional evening or weekend classes may be required. Primary responsibilities include teaching introductory lower-level courses in either department (e.g., COMM 150: Media, Self & Society; SMED 101: Social Media Practice & Study), along with the opportunity to design and teach a limited number of upper-level electives in areas related to social media or communication, depending on student interest and departmental needs. Calculates and assigns grades (e.g., mid-term and final) through established procedures listed in the Faculty Manual and University catalog. Tracks and reports absences as directed by the Office of the Registrar.

Posts and holds regular office hours each week per College and University guidelines. Engages in University-related activities including committee assignments, meetings, ceremonies, events and scholarly pursuits as prescribed in the Faculty Manual.
