American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a PCU/Med-Surg/Oncology unit position requiring ACLS, BLS, and at least 1 year of PCU and oncology experience, working 12-hour night shifts at a Level I Trauma facility.
Details- Work setting is an acute care, Level I Trauma hospital in a mixed PCU, Med-Surg, and Oncology unit
- 28-bed unit serving adult oncology and trauma patients
- Patient ratios: 1:4 (PCU) and 1:5–6 (Med-Surg/nights)
- Common drips include chemotherapy, heparin, cardizem, and protonix; RNs may be required to titrate insulin and cardizem
- EMR system is Epic; recent Epic experience (within 6 months) is noted during orientation planning but is not a disqualifier
- IV pumps used: Alaris
- Specialty equipment includes Lyko lifts and other lift equipment available in the unit
- Schedule is 12-hour night shifts (7p–7a) with self-scheduling
- Every other weekend required
- Floating required to same level of care (Med-Surg and PCU units)
- 13-week contract
- Active NE state or Compact (NLC) RN license — must be active at time of consideration; pending licenses not accepted
- Active certifications required: BLS (AHA), ACLS, and ONS/ONCC — pending certifications not accepted
- Minimum 1 year of PCU and oncology RN experience required
- At least 1 year of charge nurse experience required
- Chemotherapy certification preferred but not required
- Valid driver's license required for consideration (used to verify address for radius compliance)
- 2 professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both must include dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
- Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility (permanent address verified via driver's license)
- Responsibilities include caring for oncology and trauma PCU patients, performing hourly rounding, and administering/titrating drips
- Competencies in ventilator management, hemodynamic monitoring (CVP, A-line, Swan, EV-1000), and ICP monitoring are beneficial — on-the-job training available for these skills
- Orientation is 2 days; a pass/fail open-book exam is administered during orientation requiring a minimum score of 90% to continue the assignment
- Multidisciplinary team support includes nursing assistants, charge nurses, PT/OT, RN case managers, social work, educators, and dieticians
- Navy blue scrubs required
- Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care areas — refusal to remove them will result to contract termination
- RTO must be declared upfront; a maximum of 7 days is permitted per 13-week contract and no additional RTO will be approved after consideration
- Candidates who have been directly employed full-time, part-time, or PRN by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity facility within the past year are not eligible; candidates employed PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered
