Job Summary:
The Subassembly Technician is responsible for preparing and assembling marine components using saw systems, tube and bar benders, and part preparation tools. This position plays a key role in supporting production by fabricating high-quality parts that meet design specifications and quality standards. The ideal candidate has experience with basic fabrication equipment, strong attention to detail, and a commitment to accuracy and efficiency.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Operate saw systems (manual and automated) to cut aluminum, stainless steel, or composite materials to specified lengths and angles based on blueprints or job travelers.
  • Use tube and bar bending equipment to form parts to exact radii and configurations, verifying tolerances with jigs or measurement tools.
  • Perform part prep functions including deburring, hole drilling, surface finishing, and labeling or tagging components for assembly or inventory.
  • Read and interpret job orders, engineering prints, and cut lists to ensure accurate fabrication and correct material selection.
  • Perform routine maintenance on shop equipment and maintain a clean and organized work area in accordance with 5S and safety standards.
  • Assemble prefabricated parts into mechanical subassemblies following production drawings, work instructions, or build fixtures.
  • Ensure each subassembly is built to specification and inspected for fit, finish, and function before release to downstream departments.
  • Communicate with quality and assembly teams to resolve part issues or inconsistencies and support production schedules.
  • Support continuous improvement efforts related to quality, efficiency, and workflow in the subassembly process.

Skills and Knowledge Requirements:
  • Basic mechanical aptitude with the ability to safely operate saws, benders, and general fabrication equipment.
  • Basic mechanical assembly skills with an understanding of part alignment, fastener installation, and jig-based assembly.
  • Ability to read and understand technical drawings, blueprints, and measuring devices (tape measures, calipers, angle finders).
  • Familiarity with materials common to marine manufacturing, including aluminum tubing, stainless steel components, and composites.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail to ensure consistent, high-quality part output.
  • Ability to follow build documentation accurately and maintain consistency across multiple builds.
  • Ability to lift materials up to 50 lbs, stand for extended periods, and work in a fast-paced, production-driven environment.
  • Knowledge of workplace safety practices, PPE usage, and handling of sharp or heavy materials.
