Job Description
Salary: $90,000 - $130,000

Are you passionate about shaping the future of humanity's presence in space? Lunar Outpost, a trailblazer in space robotics and planetary mobility, invites you to join our team! Lunar Outpost is dedicated to creating a sustainable presence in space, while also driving a positive impact here on Earth. We are seeking a Mission Operations Engineer to help us create the future of lunar surface mobility in a fast-paced startup environment. As a Mission Operations Engineer, you will support the operations of spacecraft by developing mission plans, managing ground systems, and executing real-time flight operations. You will be focused on the LTV (Lunar Terrain Vehicle). This cutting-edge crewed and autonomous mobility platform will drive NASA astronauts, carry payloads, and build key infrastructure on the lunar surface. Youll play a critical role in ensuring mission success by carefully planning, monitoring, and collaborating with cross-functional teams.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and refine mission plans, including science objectives, operational strategies, and contingencies, including collaboration with system design and test teams to integrate full life cycle considerations into the vehicle and its operations
  • Oversee and maintain ground systems supporting spacecraft operations
  • Execute spaceflight missions, including monitoring spacecraft health, executing commands, and responding to anomalies in real time
  • Plan and coordinate spacecraft maintenance, including hardware/software updates
  • Manage mission data flow, from collection and processing to archiving and analysis
  • Train flight controllers and provide technical support during operations
  • Identify and mitigate operational risks to ensure mission safety and reliability
  • Collaborate with internal and external scientists, engineers, and mission control teams to achieve objectives

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in Aerospace Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related field
  • 3+ years of experience in mission operations, flight control, or spacecraft systems
  • Team-oriented, with excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent organization and time management skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize tasks effectively
  • U.S. Persons

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Masters degree in a related field
  • Experience supporting NASA or other spaceflight missions
  • Familiarity with ground control systems and data management tools
  • Knowledge of spacecraft design, orbital mechanics, or risk management practices

Any offer of employment for this position is conditional upon Lunar Outpost receiving the LTVS Phase II contract from NASA. If the contract is not awarded to Lunar Outpost, this offer will be considered null and void, without further obligation to Lunar Outpost.

Lunar Outpost is an equal opportunity employer. We do not discriminate against protected characteristics (gender, age, sexual orientation, race, nationality, ethnicity, religion, disability, veteran status). We want all employees (including executives and HR) to treat others with respect and professionalism.
