Job Summary
Reporting to the Infusion Manager, the Infusion Nurse is responsible for the safe administration of various infusion therapy and other related medications while providing quality and compassionate care including thorough and accurate patient assessment, inserting short peripheral vascular access devices, accessing central vascular devices, caring and maintaining patients IV access, and providing patient education.

Schedule: Wednesday, Thursday, & Friday (7:00 AM 7:30 PM
)
Alternative Work Schedule (AWS): Agreement with AWS required
Location: On-site

Essential Duties

Pre-Infusion
  • Coordinates infusion appointment bookings while maintaining timely flow of patients.
  • Performs general nursing assessment, care and education in accordance with infusion center protocol per INS and NICA, and all applicable accreditation, federal, state and local regulations. (i.e., interviews, screening, vital sign assessments, etc.).
  • Prepares medications, equipment and supplies while ensuring medication rooms are clean and stocked with required supplies and materials.
  • Inserts short peripheral vascular access devices and discontinue central vascular access devices safely per protocol, while retaining patient comfort and dignity in the process.
During Infusion
  • Administers ordered infusions, various injections, subcutaneous, oral, and other medications described under the center scope of services.
  • Accurately documents patient care services (demographics, treatment, care notes, vitals, etc.) within the electronic medical record.
  • Performs any necessary lab work/testing and provides follow up on test orders, reporting results to providers and patients or legal representatives.
  • Observes and reports patient's condition and reaction to drugs and treatments to the provider and records it in the EMR; administers prescribed medications as directed by the provider.
  • Transfers patients to the Emergency Department per protocol or per providers order while constantly monitoring the patient(s) and informing legal representative(s).
  • Oversees, supervises and assists the medical assistant(s) on their assigned tasks as they prepare the infusion suites/chairs, takes patient's vital signs, and other patient related care.
Post- Infusion
  • Coordinates patients plan of care between providers, staff and legal representatives.
  • Provides comprehensive education and teaching to patients and their caregivers so that patient/caregiver can comfortably administer their drugs at home as needed.
  • Assists infusion staff/providers with answering phones; will be assigned other duties as patient care and Infusion center operational needs change.
Regulatory
  • Accountable for maintaining a safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules and regulations. (Blood Borne Pathogens, Hand Hygiene, Title 22 requirements, etc.).
  • Protects patient confidentiality per HIPAA rules as well as CIBDs policy and procedures.
  • Participates in professional development activities and maintain professional affiliations while attending appropriate training, seminars, workshops, and conferences as required.
Required Education and Experience
  • Graduation from an accredited school of Registered Nursing (RN) program
  • Minimum 2 years of clinical nursing experience in acute care or ambulatory setting
  • Minimum 1 year of infusion therapy experience with adults
Required Licensure/Certification/Registration:
  • Active California State Registered Nurse (RN) License
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certificate
  • Current Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Certificate
  • HIPAA training
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or equivalent education
  • Minimum 1 year of infusion therapy experience with pediatrics
  • CRNI Certificate
  • INS Membership
  • ACLS Certificate
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish

CIBD is a part of a nationwide network of over 140 Hemophilia Treatment Centers that use multidisciplinary teams of blood disorder specialists to provide expert comprehensive diagnosis, medical care, outreach, education, outcomes monitoring, surveillance, and prevention services to people with hemophilia, Sickle-Cell Anemia, Thalassemia, Von Willebrand Disease, and other related hematology conditions. CIBD is the regional grantee for the Western States Region/Region IX providing regional leadership, fiscal and administrative oversight, grants management, capacity building, clinical education, technical assistance, evaluation, and outreach to public and private health agencies at the local, state, and federal levels.
