Job Opportunity Position Overview

The Cat Scan Technologist is responsible for performing computed tomography (CT) procedures and related techniques. This role involves producing sectional and three-dimensional images for interpretation and assisting with interventional and therapeutic procedures.

Essential Functions

• Perform complex CT procedures while utilizing professional judgment to review and obtain patients' clinical histories, ensuring accurate documentation in PACS.
• Prepare, screen, and review the accuracy of the contrast questionnaire along with the patient and/or family members.
• Identify and/or administer contrast media related to CT exams as prescribed by a licensed practitioner.
• Verify the appropriateness of exams against patient prescriptions; communicate with Radiologists and Referring Physicians as needed.
• Clarify prescriptions with physicians in accordance with established CT protocols.
• Verify insurance authorizations and manage any necessary exam modifications with the Finance department.
• Obtain and schedule outside studies to ensure availability in PACS for Radiologist review.
• Provide exam copies to patients, requesting physicians, and family members as necessary.
• Evaluate radiographs using the PACS system to ensure proper identification and diagnostic value.
• Gather relevant patient information from medical records and health care providers to prepare protocols for scanning and ensure patient safety.
• Prepare patients for scanning, including shielding and immobilization devices.
• Administer appropriate types and doses of contrast media.
• Provide clear explanations and instructions to patients, addressing any questions or concerns.
• Perform venipuncture, IV patency, and maintenance procedures as per established guidelines.
• Monitor patients for any adverse reactions during procedures.
• Commit to scheduled shifts, including holidays and weekends, and provide overtime as needed for continuous patient care.
• Be available for on-call assignments in accordance with departmental policies.
• Adhere to policies regarding attendance, punctuality, and behavior standards.
• Lift a minimum of 25 lbs., push and pull a minimum of 50 lbs., and stand for at least 6 hours a day.
• Tailor patient care to meet the needs of specific populations, including considerations of age, culture, and language.

Schedule

Evening shift from 3:00 PM to 11:30 PM, 5x8 hour shifts. Work is required every third weekend and on holidays as needed. There is no on-call requirement.

Experience Requirements

Required Skills & Experience

• Strong knowledge of anatomy and physiology as well as radiological positioning.
• Familiarity with the mechanical attributes of CT software and hardware.
• Thorough understanding of PACS systems.
• Maintain required Continuing Education Units (CEUs).
• Achieve ARRT (CT) certification within the first twelve months from the date of hire.
• Obtain American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification within three months of hire.

Preferred Skills & Experience

• Six months of CT experience is preferred.
• Knowledge of Epic and any HIS/RIS systems utilized by the facility is advantageous.

Education Requirements

• Graduate of an accredited Radiologic Technologist program.
• High School diploma or equivalent.

• NJ DEP Diagnostic Radiography License.
• ARRT Certified R.T.(R) license required.
• American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.
