Job Description
The Ophthalmic Technician is responsible for performing specialized testing procedures, conducting preliminary screening examinations for physician review, and maintaining testing equipment. This role requires setting up, operating, and maintaining equipment, assisting patients during transfers, and ensuring quality control of equipment and supplies. Additionally, the technician will perform various clinical activities as required.
Responsibilities- Perform specialized testing procedures appropriate to the ophthalmic specialty.
- Conduct preliminary screening examinations for physician review.
- Review patient charts, conditions, and physician notes to plan and determine method of testing.
- Position patients for examinations.
- Set up, operate, and maintain equipment for conducting tests and procedures.
- Assist patients when necessary in transfers to/from wheelchairs, stretchers, and exam tables.
- Report equipment problems and act as a liaison with repair personnel.
- Maintain quality control checks and log service records.
- Order and maintain inventory of supplies, ensuring disposal protocols are followed.
- Perform additional functions related to clinical activities.
- 3+ years of experience in the field of optometry or ophthalmology.
- Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT) certification.
- Experience with Epic systems.
- Manual Refraction experience.
- High school graduate.
- Certification as a Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) or Certified Ophthalmic Medical Technologist (COMT) is preferred.
This position operates within a very large, busy office in New Haven. The schedule typically runs between 8:00 AM and 5:30 PM. The work environment is dynamic, with a focus on providing exceptional medical care in a nurturing setting. The office is equipped with advanced and innovative technology, supporting a multidisciplinary approach to patient care.

Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $27.00 - $35.00/hr.
