About the Job:

Given the successful completion and ramp-up of the historic expansion at Rochester, this is a unique opportunity. In collaboration with Coeur’s Corporate Safety experts, colleagues at other sites and operational leaders, the Safety Manager will drive the overall Safety strategy and vision for Rochester’s site, operations and contractors alike.

We are looking for a seasoned professional to bring expertise and energy to the Safety function in areas of strategy, team building and performance, planning, resourcing and industry-leading daily operations and incident/accident response effectiveness.

Responsibilities:

  • Accountable for the development, planning, communication, monitoring, compliance and performance of site-wide safety programs, standards, equipment, training and staff including robust incident/accident response plans and resources
  • Be responsible for all compliance requirements relating to safety and health such as MSHA and Workers’ Compensation.
  • Represent the company to MSHA inspectors
  • Prepare, monitor and administer departmental budget
  • Provide support to managers and supervisors in all areas of safety and health including contractors on-site
  • Develop and update safety and health policies and procedures and ensure effective communication and understanding across all employee and contractor groups
  • Ensure policies and procedures are applied in an equitable manner.
  • Regularly inspect the operation for compliance with MSHA regulations and company policies/procedures.

Required Qualifications & Skills:

  • A minimum of five years' experience in mining, or related field, in addition to related education and qualifications/certifications.
  • Demonstrated progressive experience leading teams with scope over functional policy and procedure
  • Experience building, managing and optimizing 7-figure annual budgets
  • Knowledge of MSHA standards and safety systems & job procedures
  • Must hold and maintain a CPR/AED and first aid certification
  • Possess or able to obtain an MSHA certified Instructor card for “Instructor Surface”
  • Knowledgeable of all 30 CFR parts 47, 48, 50, 56, 58, & 62 standards
  • General knowledge of mine and processing equipment
  • Liaise with outside entities such as MSHA, NSC, local Fire and Rescue agencies
  • Work in all conditions and environments, approximately 50% of job is outdoors
  • Able to walk up and down slopes and uneven ground daily
  • Willing to stop work for safety concerns and always abide by safety best practices, policies and procedures
  • Proficient use of personal computer and Microsoft Office programs.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills applied to direct and indirect teams
  • Ability to collaborate with and influence workers, supervisors and management personnel on safety and health matters.
  • Professional integrity of the highest level is required at all times
