Overview
An industrial automation firm is seeking an experienced Controls Engineer to design, implement, and support control systems for industrial processes and machinery. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background, a stable work history, and hands-on experience with PLCs, DCS, HMI/SCADA, and instrumentation. This role may include acting as a technical lead or project manager on smaller projects and requires strong problem-solving and client interaction skills.
Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and support industrial control systems.
- Program, configure, and troubleshoot PLCs, DCS, RTUs, and HMI/SCADA systems.
- Develop and maintain system documentation, schematics, and databases.
- Participate in commissioning, check-out, and troubleshooting at client facilities.
- Serve as a technical contributor or lead on projects, mentoring junior engineers as needed.
Must Have Qualifications
- Stable work history; candidates with frequent employment gaps will not be considered.
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical/Control Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or Computer Science.
- 5+ years of experience with:
- PLC hardware/software (Rockwell Automation).
- HMI/SCADA platforms (Rockwell Automation, Inductive Automation Ignition).
- DCS platforms, specifically Emerson DeltaV.
- Instrumentation for process control systems.
- Standard programming languages for automation/HMI/SCADA (VBA, .NET, SQL).
- Ability to conceptualize, detail, and implement control systems for industrial processes and machinery.
- Ability to develop control system architecture, select components, create schematic diagrams, and produce system documentation.
- Experience programming controllers (PLC, DCS, RTU).
- Willingness to travel up to 25%.
Nice to Have
- Experience with industrial networking (fiber, wired, wireless) and industrial protocols (Ethernet/IP, Profibus, Modbus).
- Familiarity with electrical schematics, power distribution under 480VAC, control panels, and NEC standards.
- Proficiency with automation protocols: HART, Foundation Fieldbus, Traditional I/O, Profibus, Ethernet/IP, OPC, Modbus TCP/IP.
- Leadership experience and client relation skills.
- Familiarity with S88 Batch standards.
- Knowledge of life science regulatory requirements (cGMP, 21 CFR Part 11).
- Familiarity with GAMP5, System/Software Development Life Cycle, and validation practices.
- Experience with databases (SQL).
