TRC Talent Solutions is partnering with a controls and automation organization seeking a Lead Service Engineer / Specialist to support mission-critical control systems operations. This role is heavily service-oriented, ensuring system reliability, uptime, and rapid response to technical issues while also supporting project execution and customer engagement.

Summary

The Lead Service Engineer / Specialist is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and optimizing control systems to ensure continuous 24/7 operational reliability. This role blends field service support, controls engineering, and customer-facing technical work, including system maintenance, upgrades, commissioning support, and operational troubleshooting. The position also contributes to project execution and limited sales support activities.

Responsibilities
  • Inspect, maintain, and update control systems in active operation

  • Diagnose and troubleshoot control system issues and implement corrective actions

  • Respond to service requests via phone, email, and ticketing systems to meet SLA requirements

  • Monitor system performance and identify opportunities for optimization and reliability improvements

  • Track service KPIs and collaborate with internal teams to ensure rapid issue resolution

  • Provide continuous technical support for building automation and controls environments

  • Review P&IDs and develop instrumentation lists

  • Prepare and maintain technical documentation for systems and projects

  • Configure HMI screens and update PLC/DDC/DCS control logic

  • Support system networking and integration activities

  • Assist with onsite startup, calibration, testing, and troubleshooting

  • Support customer training and operational handover activities

  • Provide technical input during customer and sales discussions

  • Support identification of new opportunities within existing accounts

Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience)

  • Strong understanding of mechanical and electrical systems in industrial or building automation environments

  • Experience with one or more of the following platforms:

    • Tridium Niagara N4

    • Distech (BACnet, LON, Eclypse)

    • Johnson Controls (Metasys, Facility Explorer)

    • Siemens (Apogee, Talon, DXR, Desigo CC/Insight)

    • Rockwell Automation (FactoryTalk, RSLogix/Studio 5000, PlantPAx)

  • Familiarity with HVAC systems, P&IDs, and functional testing

  • Experience with control system troubleshooting and field service support

  • Strong communication and customer interaction skills

  • Ability to work in a 24/7 on-call rotation and respond to urgent system issues
