Medical Laboratory Scientist Job Details

• Location: Upper Marlboro, Maryland 20774 (Maryland healthcare jobs)
• Assignment Length: 13-week travel contract (Start: 01/05/2026 – End: 04/06/2026)
• Schedule: 5x8-hour shifts/week (Monday–Friday), alternating evening (3:00pm–11:30pm) and night (11:00pm–7:30am) shifts; flexibility to rotate shifts required
• Hours per Week: 40
• Employment Type: Travel healthcare contract
• Setting: Hospital Laboratory
• On-Site Position
• Orientation: 24 hours
• Holidays: Required as scheduled
• Weekends: Not required
• On-Call: Not required
• Floating: May be required within the laboratory department

Medical Laboratory Scientist Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of recent experience as a Medical Laboratory Scientist or Lab Technician
• Active Maryland or Compact State License (required for Maryland laboratory jobs)
• ASCP certification required (ASCP-MLS and BLS preferred)
• Proficient in laboratory equipment, instrumentation, and Epic charting system (preferred)
• Ability to work independently and adapt to alternating shifts in a hospital laboratory
• Flu vaccine required (no exemptions)
• Two satisfactory professional references from recent employers (at least one supervisor/manager and one charge RN)
• Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility

Medical Laboratory Scientist Responsibilities

• Perform comprehensive laboratory tests and procedures, including blood banking, microbiology, molecular extractions, PCR testing, specimen collection and processing, quality assurance, and reporting of test results
• Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory instruments and analyzers
• Ensure proper labeling, storage, and disposal of laboratory specimens
• Maintain accurate records and documentation in accordance with hospital laboratory protocols
• Float within the department and provide clinical support across various lab sections
• Participate in orientation and ongoing training for healthcare professionals
• Adhere to all safety, infection control, and compliance standards in the clinical laboratory
