What You’ll Do
The Packaging Mechanic is responsible for the setup, operation, adjustment, troubleshooting, and maintenance of oral solid dosage (OSD) pharmaceutical packaging equipment. This role ensures that packaging lines run efficiently, safely, and within validated parameters to support high-quality output and regulatory compliance. The Packaging Mechanic performs changeovers, conducts preventive maintenance, and partners with Quality, Production, and Engineering to resolve equipment issues and support continuous improvement initiatives.
Key Responsibilities:
• Set up, operate, and adjust packaging equipment including unscramblers, bottle fillers, cottoners, desiccant feeders, induction sealers, retorquers, labelers, outserters, and case sealers.
• Perform line changeovers according to approved setup sheets, ensuring accurate component installation and readiness for QA line clearance.
• Troubleshoot mechanical issues in real time, diagnosing root causes and performing timely corrective actions to minimize downtime.
• Conduct preventive maintenance (PMs) and minor mechanical repairs; document all activities in equipment logbooks in compliance with GDP.
• Verify packaging parameters and ensure all settings remain within validated and qualified ranges throughout operation.
• Maintain line cleanliness, equipment condition, and overall compliance with 5S, contamination control, and data integrity standards.
• Collaborate with Quality Assurance, Production Leads, and Engineering to resolve equipment deviations, discrepancies, or abnormal conditions.
• Assist in training junior mechanics, operators, or temporary personnel on safe operation, equipment setup, and troubleshooting techniques.
• Ensure compliance with Master Batch Records (MBRs), SOPs, and safety procedures at all times.
• Report safety hazards, equipment failures, or documentation concerns immediately to supervision.
• Perform additional duties as required to support packaging operations and maintain uninterrupted production.
What We’re Looking For
Experience: 3+ years of experience as a Packaging Mechanic in a pharmaceutical, nutraceutical, or other regulated GMP manufacturing environment. Experience with automated or semi-automated bottle or blister packaging systems strongly preferred.
Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; trade school, vocational training, or mechanical/industrial maintenance coursework preferred.
Skills & Knowledge:
• Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to read and interpret equipment manuals, drawings, and setup diagrams.
• Knowledge of cGMP, GDP, and FDA regulatory expectations for pharmaceutical packaging operations.
• Proficiency in equipment setup, changeover, troubleshooting, and minor mechanical repair.
• Familiarity with electro-mechanical systems, pneumatics, conveyors, and servo-driven controls is a plus.
• Strong commitment to data integrity, documentation accuracy, and adherence to SOPs.
• Effective communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced manufacturing environment with changing priorities.

Schedule
• Full-time, on-site position (1st shift: 7:00am-3:30pm; 2nd shift: 3:00pm-11:30pm) with flexibility for overtime, extended shifts, or weekend work to support production schedules.
