Operating Room (OR)Registered Nurse (RN)

The OR RN is a highly skilled and detail-oriented nursingprofessional responsible for providing perioperative care to patientsundergoing surgical procedures. This role requires expertise in steriletechnique, surgical instrumentation, and patient safety throughout thepreoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative phases. The RN collaborateswith surgeons, anesthesiologists, and the surgical team to ensure optimaloutcomes and a safe environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

·        Apply the nursing process to assess, plan,implement, and evaluate care for surgical patients

·        Conduct preoperative assessments, includingpatient history, allergies, and readiness for surgery

·        Prepare the operating room by ensuring propersterilization and availability of instruments and supplies

·        Assist with positioning, prepping, and drapingpatients for surgery

·        Maintain strict adherence to aseptic and steriletechniques during procedures

·        Monitor patient status intraoperatively,including vital signs and anesthesia response

·        Handle surgical instruments and assist surgeonsduring procedures

·        Administer medications and IV therapies asprescribed

·        Document all perioperative care accurately inthe electronic health record (EHR)

·        Collaborate with the surgical team to anticipateneeds and respond to emergencies

·        Provide postoperative care, including painmanagement, wound assessment, and patient education

·        Ensure compliance with infection control,safety, and quality standards

Minimum Requirements

·        Current Registered Nurse License in the state ofpractice

·        Minimum one year of professional nursingexperience; OR or perioperative experience preferred

·        Completion of Amergis' Competency Program (ifapplicable)

·        Current BLS certification (ACLS stronglypreferred)

·        Knowledge of surgical procedures,instrumentation, and sterile technique

·        TB screening and health clearance (as requiredby contract or regulation)

·        Compliance with all federal, state, and localregulations

·        Successful completion of new hire orientationand OR-specific training

·        Understanding of patient confidentiality andHIPAA regulations

·        Strong communication skills and proficiency inEnglish

·        Basic computer literacy

·        Must be at least 18 years of age
