Optometrist (Locum Tenens)

We’re hiring an Optometrist (OD) for a Locum Tenens opportunity serving a central hub city and surrounding villages in Northwest Alaska. This role offers meaningful work, adventure, and a flexible schedule — with no call, no weekends, and the ability to practice at the top of your license.
Any U.S. state OD license accepted.

What You’ll Do

• Provide outpatient optometry care in both a hospital clinic and village clinic settings.

• Patient volume varies by location:

  • Hospital clinic: ~7–9 patients/day

  • Other locations: ~15–20 patients/day

• Perform charting, OCT imaging, and most visual field testing.

• Travel to village clinics (4–5 days per trip) with staff support for patient check-ins and eyewear orders.

Schedule Options

• Monday–Friday

  • 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM, or

  • 9:00 AM – 6:00/7:00 PM

• No Call

• Assignment options:

  • January start with a 3-month minimum, or

  • Month-on / Month-off schedule

Compensation & Benefits

• $115/hr (1099)

• Travel & Housing Provided for all assignments

• On-site housing accommodations during community clinic travel

Who We’re Looking For

• Active Optometrist (OD) license — any U.S. state accepted

• Active BLS

• COVID vaccination + booster

• Culturally sensitive and excited to work with Alaska Native communities

• Alaska bush experience highly preferred
