TRC Talent Solutions is partnering with a controls and automation organization seeking a Service Engineer / Specialist to support the reliability and lifecycle performance of mission-critical control systems. This role is heavily focused on field service, system uptime, and rapid issue resolution, with additional support for implementation, upgrades, and commissioning activities.

Summary

The Service Engineer / Specialist is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and optimizing control systems in 24/7 operational environments. The role ensures system reliability through proactive maintenance, SLA-driven incident response, and continuous performance improvement. In addition, the position supports project execution activities including system configuration, startup, and customer-facing technical support.

Responsibilities
  • Inspect, maintain, and update control systems in active environments

  • Diagnose and resolve control system issues and implement performance improvements

  • Monitor service channels (phone, email, ticketing systems) and respond to incidents within SLA requirements

  • Track KPIs and collaborate with internal teams for rapid issue resolution

  • Provide ongoing technical support to ensure system uptime and reliability

  • Participate in 24/7 on-call rotation and respond to urgent system failures as needed

  • Review P&IDs and develop instrumentation lists

  • Prepare technical documentation and system records

  • Configure HMI screens and PLC/DDC/DCS control logic

  • Support system networking, integration, and configuration activities

  • Assist with onsite startup, calibration, testing, troubleshooting, and commissioning

  • Support customer training and operational handover

  • Provide technical input during customer and sales discussions

  • Support identification of additional service opportunities within accounts

Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience)

  • Strong understanding of mechanical and electrical systems in industrial or building automation environments

  • Experience with one or more of the following platforms:

    • Tridium Niagara N4

    • Distech (BACnet, LON, Eclypse Controllers)

    • Johnson Controls (Metasys, Facility Explorer)

    • Siemens (Apogee, Talon, DXR, Desigo CC/Insight)

    • Rockwell Automation (FactoryTalk, RSLogix/Studio 5000, PlantPAx)

  • Understanding of HVAC systems, P&IDs, and functional testing

  • Experience troubleshooting live control systems in operational environments

  • Willingness to participate in a 24/7 on-call rotation
