We are seeking a detail-oriented CAD Designer to support the design and fabrication of pumps, fire hydrants, and fire suppression skids. This role focuses on producing accurate 2D and 3D CAD models, fabrication drawings, and bills of materials for welded and machined metal assemblies used in fire protection and suppression systems. The ideal candidate will work closely with engineering, fabrication, and assembly teams to ensure designs are practical, code-compliant, and production-ready.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create and maintain 2D and 3D CAD models for pumps, hydrants, piping, frames, and fire suppression skids
  • Produce fabrication and shop drawings for welded steel assemblies, piping layouts, and machined components
  • Develop and maintain bills of materials (BOMs), cut lists, and part numbers
  • Apply GD&T, weld symbols, and fabrication standards to drawings
  • Collaborate with engineers, welders, machinists, and assemblers to ensure designs are manufacturable and efficient
  • Support design of piping systems, flanges, valves, and pump components
  • Revise drawings per engineering change orders (ECOs) and production feedback
  • Assist with prototyping, fit-up reviews, and first-article builds
  • Maintain CAD files and revision control in accordance with company procedures
  • Ensure designs align with applicable industry standards and codes (e.g., NFPA, UL, FM where applicable)

Required Qualifications

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in CAD, Drafting, Mechanical Design, or Engineering Technology (or equivalent experience)
  • 3+ years of CAD experience in a metal fabrication or industrial manufacturing environment
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD software such as SolidWorks, Inventor, or similar (AutoCAD for layouts a plus)
  • Strong understanding of metal fabrication processes, including welding, machining, cutting, and forming
  • Experience creating fabrication and shop drawings for welded assemblies
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical and piping drawings

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with fire suppression or fire protection equipment manufacturing
  • Familiarity with pump assemblies, piping systems, and pressure-rated components
  • Working knowledge of NFPA standards related to fire protection systems
  • Experience with skid-mounted equipment design
  • Familiarity with ERP or PLM systems and revision control

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Practical, hands-on approach to design for manufacturing
  • Ability to communicate effectively with shop floor personnel
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills
  • Problem-solving mindset with the ability to adapt designs based on fabrication feedback

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

  • Combination of office and shop floor environment
  • Regular interaction with fabrication, welding, and assembly areas
  • Ability to work at a computer for extended periods and occasionally walk production floors
