Your Role & Impact
As a W/R Utility Worker I, you’ll be a key member of our Water Resources Construction & Maintenance team. Your work will directly support the construction, maintenance, and rehabilitation of Fayetteville’s water distribution and sanitary sewer systems—helping ensure safe, reliable service for our community.
You’ll operate equipment, perform repairs, and interact with customers, making a real difference in the daily lives of residents and businesses.
What You’ll Do
Install, maintain, and repair water and sewer lines, services, valves, fire hydrants, meter vaults, manholes, and related system assets
Measure and record depths and sizes of manholes and pipes; enter confined spaces as needed
Assist with flow tests and set pressure monitoring equipment
Operate heavy machinery such as dump trucks, sewer jet/vacuum trucks, and backhoes
Respond to customer concerns and complaints professionally and promptly
Adhere to safety rules and operate equipment safely and efficiently
Maintain high attendance and productivity standards
Support co-workers and contribute to a positive, respectful work environment
Communicate ideas for improving production, procedures, and cost control
Coordinate time off to minimize disruptions to the team
Take initiative to accomplish goals and demonstrate ability to learn on the job
What We’re Looking For
Good knowledge of safety rules, regulations, and procedures in water/sewer utility construction and maintenance
Working knowledge of tools, materials, and equipment used in utility work
Ability to read drawings, plans, and maps
Skill in using hand tools and specialized equipment
Ability to enter confined spaces and maintain accurate records
Effective oral and written communication skills
Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of employees and the public
Education & Experience:
Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma required
At least one year of experience in construction/maintenance-related utility work preferred.
