    Description:

    Early Start West Hartford (LGP) is the community’s early childhood hub that builds strong relationships and trusted partnerships with families, providers, and the broader community. It is a place where families and community members can help create a plan to support the needs of families and children from birth to five years old.  Early Start West Hartford is made up of four (4) distinct parts: Fiduciary, Liaison, Parent Ambassadors and Community Table, which all work closely together.

    The Early Start West Hartford Parent Ambassador is a parent/guardian leader and trusted messenger who spreads the word about the programs and services provided within the West Hartford community.  They engage other parents and caregivers in designing and implementing community initiatives through the Early Start West Hartford Local Governance Partner (LGP) work.

    Job Summary:
    • Participate in Community Table meetings and assist in planning activities to connect families with young children to early childhood services.
    • Conduct outreach in community neighborhoods, locations and events to reach families where they are (i.e. community events, parks, Community Cafe, etc.)
    • Collaborate on strategies to bring family voices into all aspects of the LGP. 
    • Participate in required Office of Early Childhood (OEC) trainings and convenings including, but not limited to: Onboarding trainings, Quarterly statewide Community of Practice (CoP) meetings with Parent Ambassadors and OEC Parent Cabinet members, Professional development, and In-Person parent leadership opportunities.
    • Participate in bi-monthly, in-person meetings with LGP Liaison.
    • Monthly communication with the OEC Parent Cabinet representative for this region.
    • Support communications monitoring including website and social media.
    • Tracking data for weekly/monthly/quarterly reports.
    Qualifications:
    • A parent or caregiver who has utilized early childhood programs and services in the West Hartford community.
    •  Must currently reside in West Hartford.
    • Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
    • Comfortable with computers.
    • Ability to work occasional nights and weekends with advanced notice.
    • Bilingual or multilingual skills are a plus.
    • Familiarity with the needs of families with young children.
    • Strong ability to communicate with people of diverse backgrounds and family structures.
    • Ability to visit different locations throughout the community.
    • Ability to work independently.
    Terms of Employment:
    • Part-time employment, flexible schedule based on meeting needs and provider schedules, some evenings or weekends may be required.
    • For the period of October 1, 2025 through June 2027.
    • Stipend $25/hour, anticipated twelve (12) hours per month, ten (10) months per year (120 hours/contract year) as an independent contractor.
    • 100% grant funded.  Anticipate potential for continued employment in subsequent fiscal years.
