About the Role
The OSP Engineer oversees a team of 3–5 CAD Technicians, transforming initial rough product designs into working documents using computer-aided design (CAD). This role reviews engineering drawings and designs to ensure adherence to established specifications and standards. The OSP Engineer relies on a mix of technical knowledge, field experience, and collaboration to deliver quality, constructible designs.
Key Responsibilities
Project Design
- Develop aerial and underground fiber designs, including cable sizing, cable counts, storage, splicing, and termination requirements.
- Ensure all designs meet customer, municipal, state, and federal specifications.
- Review utility poles, coordinate make-ready engineering, and analyze O-Calc pole loading reports.
- Collaborate with Project Managers, Team Leads, CAD, and GIS personnel to create detailed, accurate drawings.
- Ensure all designs include clear construction notes and scope details.
Customer Walkouts
- Conduct field walkouts with customers to identify optimal route solutions.
- Prepare and deliver detailed exhibits within 48 hours of walkout completion, including photos, route details, construction types, potential risks, budget considerations, and cost-saving recommendations.
Project Management Support
- Coordinate daily with the Operations Manager and Project Managers to align on priorities and project needs.
- Review and redline project drawings, ensure quality control, and communicate updates and changes to all stakeholders.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree preferred; High School Diploma required
- Experience in the telecommunications construction or civil engineering industries
- Proficiency in AutoCAD; knowledge of MicroStation, Smallworld, or ESRI GIS is a plus
- Strong field and customer-facing communication skills
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Access, and Outlook
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, and capable of managing multiple projects simultaneously
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities
