Starting Salary Range: $30.90 - $30.90GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES:Responsible for performing Stake and Locate duties on the BWL Electric, Water, Chilled Water, Fiber Optic, and Boulevard Lighting utilities. Responsible for responding to requests from Miss Dig, BWL Departments, Facilities, and from Contractors.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:Utilizes PC Mapping software, electronic equipment and drawings to locate Underground Utilities.
Drives BWL vehicles to various sites in the BWL Service Territory to identify and mark BWL utilities.
Uses paint and flags to identify the type of utility and location.
Digs to expose curb boxes and/or Water Valves with small shovel when locating water utilities.
Prepares a daily work schedule, takes digital pictures and maintains records of each day’s work.
Responds to requests made by Contractors, BWL Construction Crews, Engineering and others as needed.
Must be willing and able to work standby rotation and/or mandatory overtime as required.
Follows BWL safety manual and wears required personal protective equipment as required.
Attends training and safety awareness and/or skills improvement as required by the BWL or government agency such as MIOSHA.
Performs other duties as necessitated by job responsibilities.
Required:
High school diploma or equivalent.
Must be able to use a PC in a proficient manner.
Must successfully complete BWL -provided Underground Utility Locator Certification training within one year of being hired.
Valid MI driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
Preferred:
Knowledge of Underground Utility Construction practices.
Knowledge of the BWL Service Area.
Two years minimum working as an Underground Utility Locator.
Must read work orders, interpret electronic instruments, and read maps showing the location of BWL Utilities. Lifts pieces of electronic equipment weighing up to 25 pounds. Good visual acuity required to operate BWL vehicle within construction sites. Must be able to work on uneven terrain and frequently get in and out of the BWL vehicle. Job functions require considerable standing as well as the ability to crouch, stoop, bend, kneel and twist. Some hand digging with small shovels is required.
WORKING CONDITIONS:Outdoor temperature and humidity ranges. Noise and dust levels may be high at times when working at or above the ground. Must work in high traffic areas. Work involves potential exposure to 600 volts when locating electrical cables.
