K-6 After School Literacy / Math  Tutor

 

Primary Function: Assist with the implementation of the Developing Reader Literacy Block and Math  during the
after school and summer program.

 

Directly Responsible To: Program Coordinator, District Site Director

Trained by: Save The Children’s Program Specialist

 

Description of Responsibilities:   
1. Work with the Program Coordinator to plan and/or implement an established plan for appropriate
activities during literacy programming
2. Implement either guided independent reading practice or daily read-alouds and fluency-building
activities during the afterschool and summer programs
3. Participate in all trainings related to the school-aged programs component area you will be
implementing
4. Assist with organizing the AR library, if appropriate
5. Work with Program Coordinator to plan literacy activities that you will be implementing, as needed
6. Incorporate one hour of planning time into weekly schedule to prepare for programming
7. Address individual children’s needs under the guidance of the Program Coordinator
8. Assist in administering pre- and post-STAR Reading™, STAR Early Literacy™, tutorials and
emergent reader modules assessments, as appropriate
9. Submit group attendance to the Program Coordinator as designated by program policy
10. Perform other relevant assigned job-related duties, as needed.
11. Ensure compliance with established COVID-related safety protocols and procedures by students and
staff.
Preferred Qualifications:
1. Bilingual/Biliterate.
2. Current Washington State Teaching Certificate or Para Educator.
3. Current MSD Teacher, Paraeducator or Substitute
Minimum Qualifications: 
1. AA Degree or 72 quarter or 48 semester credits of higher education at the 100 level and higher.
2. Experience working with elementary school-aged children in school-based programs.
3. Strong interpersonal and communication skills with demonstrated capacity to be a team player.
4. Demonstrated organizational and coordinating skills related to program implementation and
monitoring.
5. Flexible and adaptable to dynamic changes in the work environment.
6. Ability to enforce safety procedures and maintain recreational equipment and facilities.
7. Adequate computer skills and competency in using related software applications, including Microsoft
Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and use of the Internet.

 

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical
demands: occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; some stooping, kneeling, crouching,
twisting, and/or crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 35% sitting,
35% walking, and 30% standing. The job is performed under minimal temperature variations and some
hazardous conditions.
