    Position: Long-Term Substitute – K–6 STEM
    Start Date: January 8, 2025
    Location: Rippleside Elementary School (PreK–6), Aitkin Public Schools – ISD #1
    Reports To: Building Principal

     

     

      Position Overview 

    Rippleside Elementary School is seeking a dynamic, student-centered Long-Term Substitute to teach STEM to students in grades K–6. This position provides engaging learning experiences in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics through hands-on activities, problem-solving challenges, design thinking, and integration with classroom standards. The ideal candidate fosters curiosity, encourages exploration, and builds foundational STEM skills in alignment with Minnesota Academic Standards.

     

     

      Primary Responsibilities 
    • Plan and deliver high-quality STEM instruction for students in grades K–6.
       

    • Facilitate hands-on, inquiry-based activities that integrate science, engineering, coding, robotics, and math concepts.
       

    • Collaborate with grade-level teachers to support and align STEM learning with core instructional standards.
       

    • Create a positive, inclusive classroom environment that encourages risk-taking, teamwork, and creativity.
       

    • Manage classroom routines and expectations to provide a safe and productive learning environment.
       

    • Incorporate age-appropriate tools and technologies (e.g., Dash robots, Snap Circuits, iPads, basic coding platforms).
       

    • Differentiate instruction to meet a range of student needs and learning styles.
       

    • Communicate effectively with staff, administration, and families as needed.
       

    • Assess student learning through formative methods and adjust instruction accordingly.
       

    • Perform additional duties as assigned by the principal.
       

     

     

      Qualifications 

    Required:

     
    • Minnesota Teaching License in Elementary Education or a related field OR ability to obtain a Tier 1/2 license for the duration of the assignment.
       

    • Strong understanding of child development and age-appropriate instructional practices.
       

    • Ability to deliver hands-on, engaging, student-centered instruction.
       

    • Effective communication and classroom-management skills.
       

     

    Preferred:

     
    • Experience teaching STEM or a related subject at the K–6 level.
       

    • Background with robotics, coding, design challenges, or makerspace-style learning.
       

    • Familiarity with Minnesota Science Standards and integration of math/technology concepts.
       

    • Experience working in collaborative, team-based professional settings.
       

     

     

      Term & Schedule 
    • Assignment Length: January 8, 2026 – February 19, 2026
       

    • FTE: Full-time, following the Rippleside Elementary specialist schedule
       

    • Compensation: Per district substitute long-term rate and qualifications
