Job Description

JOB SUMMARY:

Under general supervision, this position is responsible for delivering high-quality instruction in culinary arts and related practices. Ensures students gain practical skills and theoretical knowledge through classroom lectures and hands-on demonstrations. Maintains a safe and organized learning environment, manages classroom and resources, and supports student success through accurate recordkeeping and timely feedback.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Design and deliver engaging classroom lectures and develop syllabi.
  • Prepare and demonstrate effective food preparation techniques and culinary procedures.
  • Teach proper methods of food handling, preparation, and presentation in both classroom and lab settings.
  • Actively recruit and advise students to support successful enrollment.
  • Maintain accurate records of student attendance and performance, and submit grades promptly.
  • Ensure a safe, organized, and productive learning environment at all times.
  • Promptly report equipment malfunctions or damage to the appropriate personnel.
  • Provide ongoing guidance and support to students to foster a positive and enriching educational experience.
  • Oversee inventory and manage supplies, equipment, and materials for both the culinary classroom and lab.
  • Monitor and maintain lab tools and equipment to prevent loss and damage.
  • Completes all other duties and responsibilities as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

  • High school diploma. Associate degree or higher in a related field preferred
  • Minimum five (5) years cooking/baking experience.
  • All instructors must meet the appropriate credentialing requirements for Indian River State College/Florida Department of Education Verified training or classroom experience.
  • Possess Culinary/Servsafe certifications.
  • Demonstrate ability in food preparation and knowledge of safety and cooking techniques and equipment required.
  • Proficient computer skills including in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, Access. and PowerPoint.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

This position requires an ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time and to present verbal lectures/demonstrations, walk, bend, lift, reach up, stoop, and carry items occasionally in excess of twenty (20) pounds.  Some lifting of computer and electronic equipment may be required.  It also requires manual dexterity to operate standard office machines, such as, copier, fax, calculator, telephone, and other equipment as necessary.
