About the Department
The primary purpose of this part time position is to assist in the Animal Control Program by performing protective, preventive, and supportive work in the daily operations of the animal shelter. Work schedule will consist primarily of rotating weekends and holidays, with some weekdays included.
Position Duties- Provides for the care of all animals at the shelter and; cleaning animal areas and common areas of shelter; once certified, euthanasia of animals when necessary; general office duties including, but not limited to answering citizens inquiries about animals available for adoption, discussing with owner/reclaims the necessity of wearing the required tag, verification of offenses; taking requests for services; preparation of bank deposit and delivery of same to bank; and other general office work such as logging in animals, obtaining signed release forms for unwanted animals, and proper completion of all rabies vaccination forms, adoption/reclaim documents and contracts, etc.
- Assists public and Animal Control Officers with handling of animals being brought into the shelter.
- Educates the public concerning the laws pertaining to required rabies vaccination of both dogs and cats.
- Educates owners on the need for vaccinated animals to wear rabies tags.
- Assists with the inventory of supplies and other activities associated with the conduct of the animal shelter as needed.
High School diploma or GED and one year experience caring for animals, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Valid driver's license.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
This position requires a thorough knowledge of public health as it pertains to rabies control, as well as knowledge of legal and enforcement policies and procedures. This position requires the ability read, interpret, and explain rules, regulation, and procedures. Communicate clearly and effectively with the general public and other employees. A sense of compassion and kindness for animals is absolutely essential.

In the event of a disaster, may be required to assist as needed.
Physical Requirements
Employee must be able to lift and carry loaded animal traps from truck to shelter. Also, they must be able to handle and control animals to prevent injury to themselves as well as others.
