Position Summary
The Youth Services Manager creatively and dependably interprets the vision, mission and goals defined by the Youth Services Administrator, working with the youth team to develop and deliver effective youth services programs and collections that support those goals. The Youth Service Manager trains, coaches and manages their staff in meeting departmental goals and objectives.

•    Customer Service:  Presents welcoming behaviors.  Remains helpful and professional with members.  Responds quickly and cooperatively to requests from staff or public.  Follows Dauphin County Library System’s (The Library) guidelines and training for customer service approach.  Demonstrates ability to determine customer's needs.  Follows up on customer transactions.
•    Analytical Skills/Problem Solving/Decision Making:  Uses sound judgment in making decisions.  Constructively manages conflict.  Works with others to solve problems and achieve results.
•    Technological Skills:  Demonstrates ability to use computers.  Demonstrates ability to access and use the Internet and electronic databases.  Demonstrates ability to use and maintain equipment basic to job.
•    Workplace Maintenance/Management:  Maintains and manages workplace security and safety.  Pays attention to personal workspace housekeeping.
•    Flexibility and Adaptability:  Remains calm in difficult, ambiguous, and challenging situations.  Responds appropriately to changes in direction and priorities.  Adapts personal style to work situations.  Takes corrective action when required.
•    Interpersonal and Group Relationships:  Willing to work with and for others.  Supports and facilitates cooperation among others.

Environmental Conditions
Primarily works indoors. Travels among facilities.  Provides own transportation and is reimbursed accordingly.

Essential Functions
1.    Supervises assigned youth services team by coaching, training, and conducting performance evaluations. 

2.    Creates and implements youth and family programs and trainings based on community needs; directly responsible for assigned area of expertise (early childhood education, school age, or collections).

3.    Communicates with community partners, participates in outreach activities, travels to organizations in Dauphin County, delivers materials, performs programs, and speaks to groups.

4.    Schedules and directs volunteers assisting with projects and programs in youth services.

5.    Acts as a resource and provides training to staff in the area of youth programming, collections, reference, and reader’s advisory services.

6.    Actively engages patrons through public services, including circulation functions, reference and reader’s advisory services.

7.    Attends staff meetings and continuing education workshops.

8.    Assists in the selection of youth services collections.

9.    Proactively promotes The Library’s programs, collections and services in all library and outreach settings.

10.    Implements exceptional customer service.

11.    Determines and prioritizes daily assignments using a variety of communication tools.

12.    Takes responsibility for a neat and inviting appearance of the youth services areas, including identifying and developing displays and maintaining order of youth materials.

13.    Opens and closes the building and assumes responsibility for public security.  

14.    Lives by the Core Values.

15.    Attends staff meetings.  Prepares monthly narrative and statistical reports.

16.    Performs other related duties.

The Youth Services Manager is a full-time position (37.5 hours per week) at $18.72/hr. and is located at the Madeline Olewine Memorial Library. The schedule is Monday - Friday 9:00am - 5:00pm with some evenings and weekends.

Qualifications


Minimum Qualifications
Education/Training: Associate’s degree or higher.

Experience: Two years’ experience working with youth required. Two years supervisory experience required. Previous experience with curriculum or program development required. Technology experience required

Required:  Requires independent transportation for travel to libraries, programs, and outreach locations, professional customer service and communication skills, ability to move library materials within and between locations, ability to retrieve and place books on shelves, sufficient mobility to perform programming for children.
