A Paid internship: 16 hours per week for 16 weeks
About Us
At Avivo, we are committed to creating pathways to housing for individuals experiencing homelessness. Through collaboration with county coordinated entry systems, tribal governments, and street outreach teams, we connect unsheltered individuals to shelter and permanent housing. Avivo Village, our low-barrier, culturally responsive shelter, helps residents move into permanent housing through trauma-informed care rooted in harm reduction and housing first principles. Join our mission to provide a radical welcome, engage with diverse communities, and make a difference for individuals experiencing homelessness.
Your Role

This semester-long, paid internship offers an invaluable opportunity to gain hands-on experience in housing advocacy and case management. As an intern, you will shadow case managers and assist clients as needed, learning key aspects of the case management process while supporting individuals to maintain stable housing.
Key Responsibilities Include
- Provide direct client services alongside Case Managers.
- Build meaningful and respectful relationships with clients.
- Assist with referrals to internal and external resources.
- Support clients in finding and securing housing, completing applications, and preparing for moves.
- Gain experience with populations experiencing homelessness, mental health crises, substance use, and housing instability.
- Learn about the Harm Reduction and Housing First models.
- Assist with crisis plans and goal development.
- Research new resources and landlord connections for clients.
- Help maintain housing stability through communication with landlords and support for moves into housing.
- Complete necessary documentation, including housing paperwork, case notes, and administrative tasks.
- Engage in team meetings, supervision, and ongoing professional development.
- Actively participate in Avivo’s Undoing Racism Plan to reduce disparities and provide culturally responsive services.
Qualifications
What You Offer
- Must be currently enrolled in an accredited Human Services or related undergraduate program. (This opportunity does not meet the requirements for a master’s-level internship or field placement.)
- Experience working or volunteering with adults experiencing homelessness or related services.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong problem-solving skills and an understanding of customer service.
- Desire to work with diverse individuals from varied backgrounds.
- Competency in MS Office Suite, email, and Internet applications.
- A flexible mindset and the ability to handle various situations with professionalism.
What We Offer
- A paid internship 16 hours per week, 8 hours per day.
- Hands-on experience in housing advocacy and case management.
- Support and mentorship from experienced case managers.
- The opportunity to work in a trauma-informed, culturally responsive environment.
- Invaluable exposure to the housing and homelessness continuum of care.
