Title: Automotive Service Technician


Location: Kent, WA


Work Schedule: 

  • During training:  Monday through Friday 8:00am-4:30pm. 
  • After training: Sunday through Thursday 10:00am-6:30pm



The career opportunity: 

The Hopelink Automotive Service Technician will perform work in the diagnosis, repair and service Fleet vehicles, Medium & Heavy-Duty Transit Buses with gasoline and diesel engines. This role is primarily responsible for preventive maintenance, diagnostics and repairs with other related fleet repairs required.

 

Your qualities:

  • 2+ years’ experience in an automotive shop/dealership or technical college setting
  • Valid CDL or the ability to obtain one within 5 weeks of hire. (Training for CDL class C license will be provided at no cost to employee)
  • Valid DOT Medical Examination Certificate or the ability to obtain one prior to hire date. 
  • Computer/technology proficiency: ability to use MS Office 365, MS Outlook, and online systems including timekeeping, and program specific systems, etc.
  • This position is a Service Critical Employeewith specific attendance requirements.  Because of the critical nature of this role to Hopelink operations, it is important that you are able to: 
    1. Report to the worksite during your scheduled hours, regardless of weather conditions or other emergencies 
    2. Manage your own transportation needs in adverse weather, including possible limitations to public transportation options
    3. Have a specific plan to address any other possible attendance barriers that arise during adverse weather and other emergencies, such as disrupted utilities or public services, road closures, school closures, etc.

 

**Due to Federal Regulations, this position is considered a Safety Sensitive Position, therefore employees are required to undergo a full criminal background check and pre-employment Federal DOT drug screening, and are subject to random screenings, which include THC among other restricted substances.

 

What you will be doing:

  • Plan, organize and perform preventative maintenance and repairs on public transportation vehicles, passenger shuttle vans, and Hopelink passenger vehicles
  • Diagnose and repair tires, cooling, electrical, brakes (including ABS), steering, air intake systems, fuel injection systems, suspension systems, and electronic components
  • Diagnose, maintain, and repair wheelchair lifts, wheelchair ramps and other related systems
  • Repair and replace interior systems and components
  • Install and/or remove specialized equipment to meet department's specific needs
  • Operate standard shop equipment including computerized wheel balancer, various hydraulic service lifts, jacks, jack stands, pre overhead fluid dispensers, and various hand tools
  • Perform equipment inspection, service, and maintenance-schedules
  • Assist incoming vehicles to determine the nature of work required, determine work priorities, and coordinate work with other Hopelink staff
  • Record keeping for vehicle maintenance history
  • Troubleshoot bus issues over the phone
  • Discuss mechanical problems with mechanics and help troubleshoot repairs
  • Enforce safety rules and regulations
