Teaching Assistant
Salary range $20.35/hr- $31.10/hr based on relevant experience

This position includes the 10 month school year plus a 6 week Summer Program
Education/Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Driver's License
Certifications:
- NYS Teaching Assistant Certification
- OR eligible to complete the requirements for and maintain NYS Teaching Assistant Certification.
Who We Are:
Wildwood School provides a comprehensive educational program for students with autism spectrum disorders and developmental disabilities to prepare them to be as independent as possible. Academic, social, employment, and functional skills are taught to each student as driven by their Individual Educational Plan (IEP), needs, and interests.
Who We Are Looking For:
A Special Education teacher, who embraces our mission of “strengthening the well-being of people with disabilities and their families through innovative supports.”
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Assists students, individually or in groups, with specialized instructional programs prepared by the teacher to present or reinforce learning concepts.
- Assists teachers in the development and use of available instructional resources, materials and equipment appropriate to planned learning programs for students.
- Assists with the monitoring of students' activities in the halls and cafeteria, on the playground and during arrival and dismissal periods.
- Attends to the physical needs of students such a helping with clothing or attending to personal hygiene and toilet habits as needed.
- Learns and uses behavior management strategies to increase students' participation in the educational program.
- Assists teachers with clerical tasks such as attendance taking and reporting, lunch money and other collections, and organizing materials, equipment and furniture for day-to-day class work.
Qualifications
Additional Requirements:
- A valid New York State Driver’s License and ability to drive and driving record acceptable for agency insurance coverage are required.
- Must have daily access to your own vehicle and drive our students when the program requires it.
- Required to complete, pass, and use CALM training, provided by the school, which includes de-escalation strategies and approved protective holds and movements for students.
