Journalism Club Advisors - Part-time

Pike Lake only - Bay View has been filled. 

The District is seeking two Journalism Club advisors. One for Bay View Elementary and one for Pike Lake Elementary. 

Position Summary:
The Journalism Club Advisor supervises and supports students in grades 3–5 after school as they plan, write, edit, and publish a student newspaper. The advisor fosters creativity, collaboration, and responsible reporting while teaching basic journalism skills.

Key Responsibilities:

• Supervise and guide 3rd–5th grade students during Journalism Club meetings.
• Teach students foundational journalism skills, including interviewing, note-taking, article structure, and revision.
• Support students in generating story ideas and assigning roles (reporters, editors, photographers, layout team, etc.).
• Edit student work for clarity, accuracy, and age-appropriate content.
• Oversee the layout, formatting, and publication of the student newspaper (digital and/or print).
• Encourage teamwork, problem-solving, and positive communication among club members.
• Ensure a safe, respectful, and productive club environment.
• Coordinate timelines for drafting, editing, and distributing each issue.
• Communicate with school staff as needed to gather news, information, and photos.
• Pike Lake Only: Incorporate elements of digital journalism using RAILSTV Junior Technology. 

  Compensation

• $300 per session, with a maximum of 3 sessions per school year.
