Job Description
The Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) Department at the University of Nevada, Reno (UNR), seeks part-time Student Workers to assist the Laboratory Safety and Chemical Inventory Teams.
Assigned tasks related to the Laboratory Safety Group involve using EH&S chemical inventory, training and protocol databases to create summaries of preliminary safety assessment information, assisting Safety Specialists during site visits, entering assessment findings in reporting software, and performing follow-up tasks like updating laboratory door card information.
Duties with the Chemical Inventory Group include work at UNR Central Receiving, where packages delivered to the UNR campus are checked for hazardous chemicals, which are barcoded with RFID tags, added to the chemical inventory database, safely repackaged, and delivered to laboratories around campus. Additional responsibilities comprise supporting both groups with projects like inventory of spaces, laboratory cleanouts, safety initiatives, or incident response. On-site training will be provided for all duties.
This position cannot be performed remotely.
Responsibilities

Required Qualifications
Candidate must be enrolled at the University of Nevada, Reno
Candidate must have good communication skills
Candidate must have the ability to follow direction
Candidate must have adaptive learning capabilities
Candidate must be able to maintain confidentiality
Candidate must be detail-oriented, organized, efficient, and reliable
Preferred Qualifications
Candidates eligible for the Work-Study program are preferred
Candidates with availability in the mornings and early afternoons (~9:00am-1:00pm) are highly desired
Candidates that have completed some laboratory course work and possess familiarity with handling hazardous chemicals and/or biological materials are encouraged to apply
Candidates with proficiency in creating data reports using MS Office software are ideal
