Job Summary:

Assistant Manager – Day Program
Supports the program manager in developing and leading community-based activities tailored to the interests and needs of individuals served, including initiatives like self-advocacy and Special Olympics. Oversees integration into broader events, ensures timely documentation, and provides training and guidance to enrichment staff. Some evening and weekend hours required.

Hours: Full Time, 40 hours per week

MVDS supports adults and children in Eagle, Garfield, Lake and Pitkin counties with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD). Our work provides life span services for these individuals, their parents and family members, guardians, colleagues at work, neighbors, and friends to promote independence, quality of life, and rights protection.

Responsibilities:

  • Staff Supervision & Leadership – Support the GES Manager in daily oversight, train and mentor staff, address performance issues, recognize achievements, and ensure team accountability.
  • Program Coordination – Develop and implement inclusive activity schedules tailored to individual interests; coordinate events such as self-advocacy classes and Special Olympics.
  • Administrative Oversight – Maintain staffing levels, complete timely reports, support board meeting prep, and ensure clear communication among families, staff, and individuals served.
  • Community Integration & Representation – Promote inclusion by connecting individuals to community resources and fostering awareness of MVDS and its mission.
  • Individual Rights & Advocacy – Protect client rights, act as a Mandatory Reporter, and support dignity, choice, and compliance with state and MVDS policies.
  • Person-Centered Planning – Encourage informed decisions, goal-setting, and independence; provide social guidance and support through monthly advocacy groups and activities.
  • Health & Safety – Maintain clean, safe environments; conduct safety drills; provide safe transportation; follow emergency protocols; and ensure vehicle readiness.
  • Care Coordination & IP Implementation – Attend IP meetings, develop goals, assist with personal care, and collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure individualized support.
  • Documentation & Medical Support – Complete daily documentation, track attendance and billing, communicate with medical staff, administer medications, and follow all health protocols.

We Love to See:

  • A High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent experience. 
  • 2 years of general management experience required, management experience in a human services environment preferred.

We Require:

  • A criminal and Motor Vehicle record which meets company standards. 
  • A valid Colorado Driver’s license.
  • Verified legal status to work in the United States.
  • Professional demeanor excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills, and ability to safeguard confidential information.
  • Computer proficiency.

Physical Demands:

  • Frequent walking, sitting, and use of hands; occasional standing, bending, driving, and lifting up to 25 lbs.
  • Requires full vision, hearing, and communication abilities, regular reading, writing, reasoning, and computer use.
  • May involve exposure to verbal or physical aggression; staff receive training to prevent and manage such situations safely.

Physical Demands/Working Conditions:

Requires concentrated visual and auditory attention; requires frequent standing and walking; lifting and transferring clients on a as needed basis, carrying, reaching, pushing, and pulling; ability to work in environments that could include changes in temperature/humidity, dust, odors, noise, etc.; ability to work with individuals with cognitive disabilities, a variety of illnesses, and medical conditions; working indoors, outdoors, and in vehicles; works around and with others, and alone; may have to walk on slippery and /or uneven walking surfaces; expected to assist individuals receiving services with entering and exiting the vehicle, toileting, cleaning, bathing, cooking and other basic life skills.

There are inherent risks in supporting people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. May be subject to name calling or other verbal insults in addition to physical aggression including, but not limited to, hitting, kicking, spitting, slapping, punching, throwing objects, etc. MVDS provides general and specific training to best prepare staff to prevent, and/or manage these occurrences.
