Description
Brief Description of Placements: The Lifeways Community Mental Health Internship Program is affiliated with multiple colleges and University’s and includes placements opportunities in several different programs. Through these placement experiences, interns become competent in the areas of clinical intervention, diagnostic assessment, professional development, cultural issues, and professional ethics and standards. The primary objective of the program is to prepare interns to become entry-level clinicians.
Interns offer clinical services at and through several different programs within Lifeways. Interns are assigned to department/sites based on their interests, training and educational needs, and abilities. In addition to providing direct clinical service, interns receive individual, group, and peer supervision and participate in Multi-disciplinary Team meetings.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities (This is not an exhaustive list of all duties/responsibilities. Other duties may be assigned)
Generalist 1st Year Student/Interns: Depending on learning plan, these individuals will work with/and learn programs such as:
- Peer Supports/Peer Center (Provide Day Treatment/Groups etc. & Community outreach)
- Outpatient Mental Health (Adult & Children’s Team): provide Case Management, resources, and skills development.
- Connect clients with community resources i.e., housing, food stamps, insurance, social security.
- Advocate for benefits on behalf of client.
- Provide a variety of life skills training to clientele.
- Work collaboratively with treatment team
Advanced 2nd Year Student/Interns: Depending on learning plan, these individuals will work with/and learn programs such as:
- Crisis Team/Intensive Outpatient (ACT, EASA, IIBHT).
- A&D Team (Substance Use Disorder Team) including residential Lifeways Recovery Center.
- Outpatient Mental Health (Adult & Children Team): Provide direct client care including psychotherapy and counseling.
- Provide diagnostic assessments with DSM V diagnoses, develop treatment plans, make referrals, provide individual, couple, family, and group counseling.
- Provide crisis intervention, counseling, evaluations, and related services.
- Provide individualized case management to clients.
- Make appropriate referrals.
- Collaborate within a multidisciplinary team structure to expand clinical competency, staff cases, and ensure thorough client care.
- Expand clinical competency via trainings and literature both as assigned and approved by supervisor(s)
Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in social work, behavioral health, or related field
- Currently enrolled in a Master Level Program
- Appropriate state licensure
- Current driver's license
- Must pass a criminal background check
- Proof of Covid vaccine, or religious or medical exception
Preferred:
- Bilingual/multilingual
