    Job Description: 
    Maintains, repairs, and overhauls school buses and school bus equipment. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Performs a variety of complicated tasks.

    DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS: 
    Position requires experience-based technical knowledge of light duty truck and medium duty bus maintenance and repair procedures with the ability to work independently.
    • Medium duty bus, mechanical and electrical
    • International / Blue Bird experience preferred
    • Gas and Diesel engine preferred
    EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
    Services and makes repairs on equipment such as major and minor overhaul of engines, brakes, fuel systems, ignitions.  Safety provisions and practices applicable to vehicle maintenance and repair under both shop and road conditions.
    • Diagnoses mechanical defects and carries out a preventive maintenance program.
    • Inspects and repairs school buses per IDOT requirements.
    • Inspects and repairs complete brake systems
    • May lead the work of others, requisition materials, keep records of time and materials and be responsible for user maintenance of equipment.
    Ability to
    • Use standard and specialized tools and garage equipment.
    • Troubleshoot vehicle components.
    • Work with minimal supervision and perform independent tasks based upon general direction
    • Read and interpret shop and technical data.
    • Maintain and establish cooperative working relationships.

    Required experience:
    • Diesel and Gas engine repair: Preferred
    Required license or certification:
    Driver License, CDL with Passenger and Air Brake endorsements preferred
