Camp Tanager 2026

Position Summary:

To assist in the administration and program implementation of the Camp Tanager Day Camp Program. Provides direct support to the Camp Director in all aspects of Day Camp program development, ensuring compliance with all applicable program, safety and licensing/certification standards. Help create and foster a strong interdepartmental sense of teamwork and cooperation and provide assistance to the Camp Director in the process of recruiting, hiring and training of all Day Camp full-time and seasonal staff.

 

Essential Functions:

  • Develop, organize and implement day camp program and program areas at Camp Tanager
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable safety and health regulatory requirements
  • Directly supervise camp counselors to include the following: Help with staff training, provide ongoing feedback, assist with campers when necessary, communicate camp and staff information and help prepare performance appraisals
  • Assist the Camp Director by providing pertinent information (staff performance, special needs of campers, misuse of camp resources, etc.) in a timely manner
  • Act on behalf of the Camp Director if so designated or as required in the absence of the Camp Director
  • Organize, plan and facilitate comprehensive training for all seasonal staff
  • Ensures that specialized trainings and any required certifications are completed for all staff
  • Responsible for ensuring compliance with program plans and all Camp policies and procedures in order to hold staff accountable to organizational goals and expectations
  • Provides support and guidance for all personal and professional issues that surface with staff members
  • Facilitate communication between campers, parents and staff to address and resolve conflict, child development issues and parental concerns relative to campers or Camp activities
  • Organize and attend weekly meetings
  • Report supply needs and facility damages in writing to the Camp Director promptly
  • Monitor summer food service program participation

Qualifications


Acceptable Experience/Training/ Education:

  • Graduation from High School or GED
  • At least four (4) years' experience with camp programs for children
  • At least one (1) year demonstrated leadership role
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge and abilities necessary to perform the work

Required Special Qualifications:

  • First Aid and CPR certified
