    PRIMARY PURPOSE:
    Ensure monitoring and timely response to all police radio traffic as well as answering emergency and non-emergency calls for service from the public.  Serve as the Department TLETS TCIC/NCIC operator.
    QUALIFICATIONS:
    Education/Certification:
    • High School Diploma or GED
    • Possession of valid Texas Driver’s License with an acceptable driving record
    • Ability to successfully meet requirements to obtain TCOLE Basic Telecommunicator Proficiency Certificate upon appointment
    • Possession of TCOLE Basic Telecommunicator Proficiency Certificate, preferred
    Special Knowledge/Skills:
    • Demonstrate the skill to accurately communicate information received by radio and phone
    • Demonstrate ability to monitor CCTV system and alarms
    • Demonstrate ability to communicate professionally and effectively both orally and in writing
    • Demonstrate experience with using independent judgment and making  good decisions quickly
    • Demonstrate skill/experience successfully performing multiple tasks in a high-stress environment
    • Demonstrate skill/experience to act quickly and calmly in emergency situations
    • Demonstrate experience or knowledge with utilization of computer systems and data entry
    • Knowledge of general office practices and procedures
    • Must pass a typing test scoring a minimum of thirty-five (35) wpm
    • Must pass a spelling test of work-related words
    Experience:
    • Two years of continuous full-time employment as a public safety dispatcher, preferred
    MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
    1. Operate two-way radio and telecommunication system.
    2. Enter all data into department CAD and computer systems simultaneously with receipt of call for service from public or update/dispositions from officers.
    3. Operate TLETS, TCIC/NCIC systems to access databases upon lawful request from a sworn officer and relay appropriate information back to the officer.
    4. Answer department emergency and non-emergency phone lines and determine the reason for the call, complete call information to relay to the responding officer, and the identity and contact number of the caller.
    5. Dispatch or contact appropriate emergency response units, both intra and inter agency, based on all pertinent information from emergency and non-emergency calls for service.
    6. Monitor district CCTV system to detect suspicious or criminal behavior and dispatch officers to investigate as needed.
    7. Monitor internal district burglar and fire alarm systems and dispatch officers to investigate alarm calls as needed.

    • Maintain emotional control under stress; work environment may be high-paced and highly stressful at times
    • Exposure to verbal abuse and sometimes hostile public
    Physical Demands
    • Light lifting/carrying, reaching above shoulder, use of fingers, repetitive hand motions; frequent bending and stooping
    • Prolonged use of computer and keyboard
    Environmental Demands
    • Exposure to constant noise of two-way radio communications equipment and telephones
