Description
Position Overview:
FR Conversions is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Powder Coater to join our Machining and Fabrication team. In this hands-on role, you will be responsible for preparing, coating, and curing metal components used in our vehicle upfitting and conversion process. This position plays a key role in ensuring that finished components meet strict quality, durability, and aesthetic standards. The ideal candidate will thrive in a fast-paced environment where consistency, cleanliness, and attention to detail are essential.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare metal parts for powder coating, including cleaning, masking, hanging, and inspecting for defects.
- Apply powder coating using spray guns and other equipment in a safe and controlled manner.
- Operate curing ovens and monitor temperature and timing to ensure proper coating adhesion.
- Inspect finished parts for coverage, thickness, consistency, and cosmetic quality.
- Touch up, rework, or strip and re-coat parts as needed to meet quality standards.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area, including proper material storage and waste disposal.
- Document production activity and quality checks for traceability.
- Assist with cleaning, maintenance, and troubleshooting of powder coating equipment.
- Follow all safety and environmental guidelines related to coatings and chemicals.
Salary & Compensation:
This is a full-time, hourly position. Pay is commensurate with experience and qualifications and complies with all applicable laws and company policies.

This position is designated as a Safety Sensitive position.

Qualifications
Requirements & Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED required.
- 1+ year of experience in powder coating or a related industrial painting/coating role.
- Ability to understand and follow written and verbal work instructions and safety protocols.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to identify coating defects such as runs, orange peel, or pinholes.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds individually.
- Ability to stand, bend, reach, and move for extended periods in a physically demanding environment.
- Willingness to operate a forklift; preferred certification or willingness to obtain certification through on-the-job training.
- Comfortable working in a non-climate-controlled, high-noise environment.
- Ability to wear appropriate PPE including respirator when necessary.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in automotive or industrial powder coating environments.
- Familiarity with electrostatic powder coating systems.
- Knowledge of proper curing cycles, coating thickness requirements, and surface prep standards.
- Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma practices.
