About the Department

Overview

The Instructor of Construction Trades is responsible for providing quality instruction to students by ensuring student satisfaction through the classroom and/or laboratory setting according to program objectives. The instructor conducts activities which directly support the objectives of the program, and the institutional goals of the institution. This instructor reports to the Dean of Workforce Development and Career & Technical Education.

Responsibilities
  1. Teach students basic to advance levels, such as electrical, framing, carpentry, plumbing, HVAC, and exterior finish.
  2. Develop lesson plans based on course objectives.
  3. Teach from detailed curriculum.
  4. Assess student progress on a routine basis.
  5. Instruction in a classroom environment and labs.
  6. Organize and present prepared instructional materials at scheduled times and places.
  7. Maintain communications with students and colleagues to assure efficient and effective instruction.
  8. Maintain records of student attendance, student progress, departmental supplies, departmental equipment, and others.
  9. Maintain discipline and order during instructional activities.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Six years full-time occupational experience required in a specific trade, such as electrical, framing, carpentry, plumbing, HVAC, and Painting.
  • Knowledge, skill, and education in current construction methods.
  • Standard high school diploma or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma.
  • Qualified experience in a specific construction trade area required.

Qualifying Occupational Fields/Work Experience

Electrical, framing, carpentry, plumbing, HVAC, and exterior finish.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Management liaison and communication skills.

Ability to communicate effectively with a variety of students.


 Industry Credentials (Preferred not Mandatory)

Journeyman license for your specific construction trade

HVAC EPA608 Certificate
