As a Bus Operator at TCAT, you will hold a key role in providing our community with safe, reliable, and affordable transportation to and from work, school, and business in Ithaca and surrounding commuter communities. We run 50+ buses along 30+ routes, 360 days a year, for approximately 22 hrs each day to get our friends and neighbors where they need to go. Our Operators are punctual, dependable, customer service-oriented, and safety-minded individuals who enjoy helping their community get there safely and on-time!

Basic Functions:

Play a key role in keeping our vibrant community connected and moving throughout Tompkins County.

Ensure safe, courteous, on-time transportation in a variety of commercial transit vehicles in a variety of weather conditions.

Support TCAT's accessibility & customer service goals by assisting riders with information about routes, schedules, and transfers.

Communicate effectively with Dispatch through verbal and written reports.

Qualifications
• Must be at least 21 years old with clean & valid NY class D driver license
o CDL-A or CDL-B license with passenger & air brake endorsements preferred
o Commercial License Permit preferred
• Excellent communication and customer service skills to deal with diverse customers and coworkers in positive and respectful manner
• Reliable transportation to Ithaca in all weather conditions
• Flexible schedule and availability for occasional overtime or mandated shifts
Requirements
• Motor vehicle record check
• Verification of past employment
• DOT physical examination & FTA drug test (including marijuana)
• Criminal background check

Physical Demands
• Must be able to lift up to 100 pounds
• Work requires the ability to reach, bend, twist, stoop, kneel, crawl, crouch and climb ladders on a regular basis in the performance of mechanical work

• Stands and walks for long periods of time in the performance of duties
• Ability to receive directions and interact with coworkers
